Consultant - Neurosurgery
About the Institution: A nationally accredited (NABH) 500-bed teaching hospital and major healthcare provider in the North East region, dedicated to world-class medical care. Established decades ago, the institution operates numerous general and super specialties with 24x7 advanced services. The hospital is academically affiliated with a prominent University and features a 500-bed super specialty wing.
About the Department: The Department of Neurosurgery is an established specialty providing comprehensive care for disorders of the brain, spine, and nervous system. It is supported by a large, multi-specialty Intensive Care complex, including dedicated units like the Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). The department utilizes advanced diagnostic imaging, such as MRI 1.5 Tesla, Spiral CT Scan, and 64-slice CT, for comprehensive patient management.
Super Specialty Neurosurgery
Mandatory Qualifications: The candidate must hold one of the following degrees, strictly recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC):
- M.Ch in Neurosurgery
- DM in Neurosurgery
- DrNB Neurosurgery
- DNB-SS in Neurosurgery
Position Nature: This is a Clinical Practitioner role. While the hospital is a teaching institution, an academic profile or previous teaching experience is not mandatory for this position. The primary focus is on clinical excellence and surgical outcomes.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 1 to 4 years of experience post-completion of M.Ch/DM/DrNB/DNB-SS in Neurosurgery.
- Candidates must demonstrate a strong track record of independent surgical management within this timeframe.
Technical Proficiency and Expertise:
Extensive documented experience in performing a wide range of surgical and non-surgical procedures, including:
- Cranial Procedures: Surgical management of brain tumors (glioma, meningioma), cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations (AVMs), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and hydrocephalus.
- Spinal Procedures: Treatment of degenerative spinal conditions, spinal cord injuries, tumors of the spine, diskectomy, laminectomy, and spinal fusion.
- Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery (MINS): Experience with microsurgery and surgical navigation systems.
- Neuro-Trauma: Management of acute, life-threatening neurosurgical emergencies and complex head/spinal cord trauma.
- Ancillary Expertise: Ability to interpret diagnostic tests (MRI/CT) and collaborate with Neurologists and Radiologists.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive neurosurgical consultant services to the Outpatient Department (OPD) and inpatient admissions.
- Surgical Interventions: Perform scheduled and emergency neurosurgery procedures (requiring 24x7 support).
- Critical Care: Manage patients with severe neurological conditions and trauma within the NSICU/ICU environment.
- Departmental Strengthening: Work to lead and improve the efficiency of clinical neurosurgical services.
Compensation and Perks
- Remuneration: A competitive salary package ranging from 3.5 Lakh to 6 Lakh per month, commensurate with the years of experience post-super specialty qualification.
- Retention Bonus: A structure includes a retention bonus paid at the end of the 1st year and 2nd year of tenure.
- Clinical Incentives: The successful candidate will be eligible for a variable pay component based on clinical performance and activity.
