Job Summary

The Purchase Manager is responsible for managing the procurement activities related to Recent Product Development (NPD) projects and the Paint Department. The role involves sourcing and developing suppliers, negotiating commercial terms, ensuring timely availability of materials, maintaining quality standards, and supporting cross-functional teams to achieve project timelines and production targets.

Role & responsibilities

New Product Development (NPD)

- Source raw materials, bought-out components, tooling, patterns, fixtures, and development items required for new product development.
- Identify and develop new suppliers based on technical capability, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Coordinate with Design, R&D;, Production, Quality, and Project teams to ensure timely procurement for NPD projects.
- Obtain quotations, conduct techno-commercial evaluations, and finalize suppliers.
- Ensure on-time delivery of prototype and development materials.
- Monitor project procurement timelines and proactively mitigate supply risks.
- Support cost reduction initiatives through value engineering and alternate sourcing.
- Maintain supplier documentation, development records, and approval status.

Paint Department Procurement

- Procure paints, primers, thinners, hardeners, chemicals, consumables, masking materials, and painting accessories.
- Ensure uninterrupted supply of paint shop materials to meet production schedules.
- Coordinate with Production and Quality teams regarding product specifications and approvals.
- Monitor inventory levels and optimize stock while preventing shortages or excess inventory.
- Ensure procurement complies with environmental, safety, and statutory requirements.

Vendor Management

- Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base.




- Conduct supplier performance evaluations based on quality, delivery, cost, and service.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contracts, and annual rate agreements.
- Resolve supplier-related issues and implement corrective actions.

Commercial & Cost Control

- Prepare comparative statements and recommend suppliers.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through negotiations, localization, and alternate vendor development.
- Monitor procurement budgets and achieve annual cost reduction targets.
- Analyze market trends and raw material price movements.

Inventory & Coordination

- Coordinate with Stores to maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Ensure timely purchase order creation, follow-up, and closure.
- Collaborate with Finance for invoice reconciliation and payment processing.
- Work closely with Production Planning to ensure material availability.

Compliance & Documentation

- Maintain procurement records, purchase orders, contracts, and supplier documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and audit requirements.
- Support ISO, Quality, and Environmental Management System documentation.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- On-time material availability for NPD projects.
- On-time supplier delivery performance.
- Procurement cost savings achieved.
- Inventory turnover and stock optimization.
- Supplier quality performance (PPM/Rejection Rate).
- Purchase order cycle time.
