Position Summary

The Dance Teacher is responsible for planning, teaching, and choreographing dance programs for students from Classes I to X. The role focuses on developing rhythm, coordination, creativity, confidence, and stage presence among students through Indian and Western dance forms.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about performing arts, skilled in multiple dance styles, and capable of training students for school functions, competitions, and cultural events while ensuring age-appropriate instruction across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

1. Dance Instruction & Training

- Teach dance to students from Classes I to X based on age-appropriate learning levels.
- Train students in basic rhythm, movement, coordination, and expression for younger classes (IV).
- Develop structured training in classical, folk, contemporary, and western dance forms for Classes VI–X.
- Ensure progressive skill development from foundational movements to advanced choreography.
- Focus on posture, flexibility, timing, rhythm, and stage presence.

2. Lesson Planning & Curriculum Design

- Prepare structured lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels.
- Design a progressive dance curriculum aligned with school activity calendar.
- Include warm-up exercises, stretching routines, rhythm training, and choreography sessions.
- Adapt teaching methods based on student ability and learning pace.
- Maintain systematic progression in skill development across classes.

3. Choreography & Event Preparation

- Choreograph performances for school events such as Annual Day, Sports Day, festivals, and competitions.
- Prepare students for inter-school dance competitions and cultural programs.
- Design thematic performances aligned with school events and celebrations.
- Train students in group dances, solo performances, and stage coordination.
- Ensure synchronization, expression, and presentation quality in performances.

4. Student Development & Skill Enhancement

- Develop students’ creativity, confidence, and self-expression through dance.
- Improve flexibility, stamina, coordination, and body control.
- Encourage discipline, teamwork, and stage confidence.
- Identify and nurture talented students for advanced training.
- Promote appreciation for Indian cultural dance heritage and global dance styles.

Classroom Management & Safety

- Maintain a disciplined, energetic, and engaging dance learning environment.
- Ensure proper warm-up and cool-down routines to prevent injuries.
- Supervise students during practice sessions to ensure safety.
- Maintain decorum and discipline during rehearsals and group activities.
- Ensure equal participation and inclusion of all students.

6. Performance & Event Execution

- Organize and conduct rehearsals for school functions and events.
- Coordinate with event committees for stage performances.
- Manage costumes, props, and music selection for performances.
- Ensure timely readiness of students for stage events.
- Support smooth execution of cultural programs and assemblies.

7. Assessment & Progress Monitoring

- Evaluate student performance based on rhythm, coordination, expression, and participation.
- Track progress of students across different dance techniques.
- Identify students with special talent for advanced training.
- Provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Maintain records of participation and performance in events.

8. Co-Curricular Integration

- Collaborate with other subject teachers for interdisciplinary performances.
- Integrate dance with cultural themes, festivals, and national celebrations.
- Promote awareness of Indian culture through classical and folk dance forms.
- Encourage participation in school assemblies and cultural programs.
- Support holistic development through creative expression.

9. Parent Communication & Engagement

- Communicate student progress and participation in dance activities to parents.
- Encourage parental support for school performances and events.
- Share feedback on talent development and participation levels.
- Maintain professional and positive communication with parents.

10. Administrative Responsibilities

- Maintain attendance records of dance classes.
- Prepare rehearsal schedules and event plans.




- Coordinate with school management for event requirements.
- Maintain inventory of props, costumes, and music resources.
- Participate in staff meetings and school planning sessions.

Required Qualifications

Educational Qualification

- Diploma or Degree in Dance / Performing Arts (Classical, Contemporary, or Western).
- Certification in Dance Education or Performing Arts will be preferred.
- Formal training in Indian Classical Dance (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, etc.) or Western dance forms is desirable.

Experience

- Minimum 2–5 years of teaching experience in schools or performing arts institutions.
- Experience in choreographing school events and competitions.
- Freshers with strong training and performance background may be considered.
