Position Summary
The Karate Teacher / Martial Arts Coach is responsible for training students from Classes I to X in karate and basic martial arts techniques, focusing on discipline, self-defense, fitness, coordination, confidence, and mental strength. The role aims to develop physical fitness along with character building, self-control, and respect among students.
The ideal candidate should be professionally trained in karate or martial arts, capable of coaching students across age groups, and able to prepare students for demonstrations, belt grading, and competitions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Martial Arts Training & Instruction
- Train students from Classes I to X in karate and basic martial arts techniques based on age and skill level.
- Teach fundamental skills such as stances, punches, kicks, blocks, balance, and movement.
- Develop advanced techniques for senior students including combinations, kata, and sparring basics.
- Conduct structured training sessions with progressive skill development.
- Ensure proper warm-up, stretching, and cool-down exercises before and after practice.
2. Lesson Planning & Training Structure
- Prepare structured karate training plans for different age groups and belt levels.
- Design beginner, intermediate, and advanced training modules.
- Ensure systematic progression from basic self-defense to advanced martial arts techniques.
- Align training schedules with school sports and co-curricular calendar.
- Adapt coaching methods based on student ability and age appropriateness.
3. Student Physical & Mental Development
- Develop physical fitness, strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination.
- Build discipline, focus, confidence, and self-control among students.
- Teach respect, etiquette, and martial arts philosophy.
- Encourage perseverance, resilience, and goal-setting through belt progression.
- Promote self-defense awareness and personal safety skills.
4. Safety & Discipline Management
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols during training and sparring sessions.
- Supervise students closely to prevent injuries during practice.
- Use protective gear and controlled training methods.
- Maintain discipline, respect, and order during all sessions.
- Ensure a protected and structured training environment at all times.
5. Belt Grading & Skill Assessment
- Conduct regular skill evaluations and prepare students for belt grading exams.
- Assess student progress based on technique, discipline, stamina, and consistency.
- Maintain detailed records of student performance and progression.
- Identify talented students for advanced training and competitions.
- Provide feedback and corrective training for improvement.
6. Event Training & Demonstrations
- Prepare students for school events, martial arts demonstrations, and sports day performances.
- Organize karate displays and self-defense demonstrations during school functions.
- Train students for inter-school martial arts competitions and tournaments.
- Coordinate participation in external martial arts events when required.
- Ensure disciplined and well-coordinated group performances.
7. Physical Fitness & Conditioning
- Conduct fitness drills to improve strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility.
- Incorporate cardio, stretching, and conditioning exercises into training sessions.
- Promote overall physical health and active lifestyle habits.
- Encourage regular practice and discipline in physical training routines.
- Track physical development and fitness progress of students.
8. Classroom & Training Management
- Maintain structured discipline during all karate training sessions.
- Ensure equal participation and engagement of all students.
- Manage large group training effectively and safely.
- Foster motivation, confidence, and enthusiasm among students.
- Maintain a respectful and disciplined training environment.
9. Student Development & Value Education
- Instill values such as respect, discipline, honesty, and self-control.
- Encourage positive behavior and leadership qualities.
- Build confidence and self-defense awareness in students.
- Promote mental focus, concentration, and emotional balance.
- Support holistic personality development through martial arts training.
10. Parent Communication & Engagement
- Communicate student progress, belt advancement, and performance to parents.
- Encourage parental support for student participation in martial arts training.
- Provide feedback on discipline, fitness, and skill development.
- Maintain qualified communication with parents when required.
11. Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain attendance records for martial arts training sessions.
- Prepare training schedules and grading plans.
- Manage martial arts equipment and safety gear.
- Coordinate with sports department for events and competitions.
- Participate in staff meetings and school co-curricular planning sessions.
Required Qualifications
Educational Qualification
- Diploma or Certification in Karate / Martial Arts / Self-Defense Training (mandatory).
- Black Belt certification or equivalent recognized martial arts qualification preferred.
- B.P.Ed. or M.P.Ed. will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 25 years of experience in karate or martial arts coaching.
- Experience in training school students preferred.
- Experience in preparing students for belt grading and competitions will be an advantage.
