Role Overview
As Procurement Engineer, you will manage sourcing, vendor development, purchase execution and supply-chain coordination for equipment, materials and services required by the manufacturing / engineering operations. You will ensure cost efficiency, quality standards, timely delivery and support for the companys engineering/manufacturing objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project teams to understand materials / equipment / service requirements (mechanical/electrical/instrumentation/structural)
- Source and evaluate vendors: new vendor identification, pre-qualification, vendor audits, performance monitoring
- Generate RFQs / tenders / quotations, compare offers (cost, quality, lead-time, terms), negotiate contracts & PO terms
- Issue Purchase Orders, monitor order acknowledgements, leadtimes, expedite where necessary
- Coordinate with inventory / stores teams to ensure material availability and avoid delays in projects or production
- Track delivery schedules, manage logistics, incoming inspection coordination, payables/vendor invoice reconciliation
- Work on cost reduction initiatives, alternative sourcing, value engineering in collaboration with engineering/manufacturing
- Maintain procurement records, vendor database,
procurement metrics (cost savings, on-time delivery, vendor performance)
- Ensure compliance with relevant internal policies, ISO / certification standards (if applicable) and regulatory requirements
- Handle risk management: vendor risks, leadtime risks, supply disruptions; implement mitigation plans
- Support continuous improvement of procurement processes (digitisation, reporting, vendor feedback)
Qualifications & Skills
- Any Graduate / Engineering degree Mechanical will be preferred
- 2-3 years of procurement experience in manufacturing / OEM / heavy engineering environment
- Valuable understanding of engineering drawings / specifications, material standards, vendor evaluation criteria preferred
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work crossfunctionally, manage multiple priorities, and deliver in time-critical situations
- Good knowledge of MS Excel, procurement software / ERP systems (preferred)
- Knowledge of vendor management, supplychain logistics, cost reduction methodologies
- Exposure to import / export purchasing, duty / customs issues (desirable)
- Familiarity with quality standards (ISO 9001, manufacturing controls) and basic contract terms
