We are seeking a Data Governance & Metadata Engineer to own the hands-on implementation of our data governance program in Microsoft Purview, with master data maintained in an MDM platform (Profisee) and data delivered across a Microsoft Fabric medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold). Reporting into the Senior Manager of Data Governance & Quality and partnering closely with the Lead Data Architect, you will make enterprise data discoverable, governed, compliant, and trusted operationalizing lineage, classification, glossary, and access policy in day-to-day builds.

Key

Data Governance & Metadata (primary focus)

- Execute and operate Microsoft Purview: scans, lineage, classifications/sensitivity labels, resource-set rules, and business glossary updates.
- Automate lineage and metadata capture across pipelines, notebooks, warehouses, and Power BI / Direct Lake models.
- Maintain the enterprise catalog, data dictionary, and glossary; keep metadata current as schemas evolve.
- Implement RBAC and data-access policies and entitlement changes; keep auditable evidence and runbooks current.
- Apply sensitivity labels, PII handling, and retention policies end to end; ensure alignment with compliance and audit requirements.

Data Quality

- Implement data-quality rules across the medallion layers (profiling, thresholds, alerts); automate validation and reconciliation.
- Partner with Data Oversight Leads (stewards) to publish DQ scorecards, SLAs, and remediation workflows.

Master Data

- Support governance of master data entities and golden records, ensuring mastered identifiers propagate correctly through the medallion layers and downstream systems.
- Collaborate with Data Oversight Leads (stewards)



on match/merge/survivorship and stewardship workflows (implemented in Profisee); help monitor MDM SLAs and surface issues.

Platform & Pipelines (secondary)

- Build and operate data pipelines and transformations in Fabric (Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Notebooks) using SQL and PySpark.
- Use Git and CI/CD to promote pipelines, notebooks, and semantic models through environment gates.

Collaboration

- Work with the Lead Data Architect on standards and reviews, and with product owners, stewards, security, and analytics teams; provide clear documentation and enablement.

Qualifications

Must-Have

- 4+ years in data governance, data management, or data engineering roles, with governance/metadata as a core responsibility.
- Hands-on experience with an enterprise data catalog / governance tool Microsoft Purview strongly preferred; equivalent (Collibra, Alation, Informatica EDC/AXON) accepted with demonstrated ability and willingness to own Purview.
- Advanced SQL for profiling, rule authoring, and investigation.
- Practical knowledge of data privacy/security controls (RBAC, sensitivity labels, PII handling) and regulatory considerations.
- Familiarity with medallion (bronze/silver/gold) patterns and cloud data platforms.
- Excellent communication; able to translate technical findings for business and technical audiences.

Preferred

- Working knowledge of master data management concepts — match/merge/survivorship, golden-record strategy, and stewardship workflows.
- Microsoft Fabric hands-on (Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, Notebooks); or Azure Synapse/Databricks/Spark experience with a clear path to Fabric.
- Building data-quality scorecards and dashboards; Power BI (modeling, DAX, governance).
- PySpark/Python for transformations and testable ELT/ETL.

Desirable

- Hands-on use of the Profisee tool specifically.
- Git / CI/CD for data assets.
- Background in financial/skilled services; understanding of accounting master/reference data.
- Certifications: Microsoft Purview / Fabric

Education

- Bachelor's or master's in computer science, information systems, data science, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.
