A Java engineer who's spent more time keeping production stable and clients calm during outages than writing greenfield code someone who leads through incidents, not just tickets.

Role & responsibilities

Own end-to-end stability and support of Java-based (Spring Boot/Quarkus) applications for a financial services/open banking client combining hands-on backend support, incident leadership, and client-facing stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead implementation and production support for Java-based applications (Quarkus/Spring Boot)
- Own and drive resolution of complex incidents and escalations, minimizing downtime
- Proactively monitor application performance via dashboards; flag issues before they escalate
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure permanent, not band-aid, fixes for recurring issues
- Manage support tickets/service requests through ServiceNow/JIRA or similar ITSM tools
- Mentor and coach junior developers/support engineers
- Partner with engineering and product teams to improve system stability and scalability
- Manage client/stakeholder expectations; deliver executive-level reporting during critical issues
- Drive process automation, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices
- Contribute to tools, SDKs, or monitoring frameworks that improve support efficiency
- Support and troubleshoot Spliceforms applications in production
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced,

Preferred Candidate Profile

Experience: 6-8 years total, with 6+ years specifically in Java backend development and/or production support

Must-have technical background:

- Strong Core Java (Advanced level)
- Spring Boot experience (Mandatory)
- Quarkus exposure (Desired)
- Prior L2/L3-style production application support experience
- Hands-on incident management, escalation handling, and RCA ownership
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow and/or JIRA
- Basic exposure to distributed systems, messaging (Kafka/Solace), and caching/DBs (Redis/Aerospike)
- Domain exposure to financial services platforms and integration frameworks (open banking a plus)

Must-have soft/leadership skills:

- Proven experience mentoring/coaching junior team members
- Robust client and stakeholder management comfortable leading calls and giving executive updates during live incidents
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical depth with business acumen
- Composure and precision in fast-paced, high-pressure support settings

Nice-to-have

- Deep Quarkus experience, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD & DevOps exposure
- Experience writing automation scripts for support/ops
- Prior Spliceforms implementation/support experience
- Background in open banking or API banking platforms
