Key Responsibilities
Boiler Operations & Monitoring
- Safely start up, operate, and shut down steam boilers (e.g., AFBC, oil/gas-fired, or WHRB) in strict accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Continuously monitor critical parameterssuch as steam pressure, temperature, water levels, and combustion draftto ensure maximum efficiency.
- Operate and monitor auxiliary equipment including feed pumps, fans, de-aerators, and air compressors.
- Respond promptly to alarms or emergency situations (e.g., low water levels, pressure fluctuations) to prevent plant disruptions.
Water Treatment & Chemical Management
- Monitor and manage boiler feed water systems, including softeners and DM (Demineralized) water plants.
- Conduct daily water sampling and testing (e.g., pH, hardness, TDS).
- Dose necessary chemicals to prevent scale buildup, corrosion, and to maintain optimal steam purity.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine preventative maintenance (lubrication, cleaning, minor parts replacement) on valves, burners, and gauges.
- Conduct blowdown operations to manage dissolved solids.
- Identify and report major equipment malfunctions, leaks, or refractory wear to the maintenance team.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all boiler operations comply with the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR) and strict OSHA safety protocols.
- Meticulously log operational data (fuel consumption, steam generation, water quality) in shift logbooks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certification: Valid 2nd Class Boiler Operator Certificate of Competency (issued by the respective State Boiler Directorate).
- Experience: (2) to (5) years of hands-on experience operating high-pressure boilers, preferably in a chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
- Technical Skills: Robust understanding of boiler water chemistry, thermodynamics, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to withstand loud noise and high-temperature environments, work rotating shifts, and lift heavy equipment.
