What you'll do
Own the UX brief for every feature you're responsible for. Define the problem, the user context, the success state, and the constraints before design starts. Then review, push back, and iterate until it's right.
Run user research that actually informs decisions. Usability tests, in-app feedback analysis, support ticket patterns, session recordings. Decide what to look at, draw conclusions, and feed them back into the roadmap and design direction.
Be the bridge between design, engineering, and product. Translate designer intent for engineers, translate engineering constraints back to design, and keep both sides aligned on what matters to the user.
Contribute to a design system sensibility without being responsible for building it. Know what consistency looks like and flag when it breaks.
What we're looking for
2 to 3 years in product management, with meaningful time on consumer-facing products where design quality mattered to retention or conversion.
A genuine eye for positive design.
You don't need an HCI background, but you should be able to explain what's wrong with a screen using first principles, not gut feel. You know the difference between a layout problem, a hierarchy problem, and a copy problem.
Solid working knowledge of UX fundamentals: information architecture, interaction patterns, accessibility basics, mobile-first thinking, progressive disclosure. You can spec a flow, identify where users will drop, and anticipate edge cases.
User research experience that goes beyond running surveys. Structuring a usability test, recruiting the right participants, avoiding leading questions, synthesising findings into something actionable.
