- Responsible for day wise special assignments and completes them accurately and timely
- Accountable for patient care in the assigned area/ ward
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of patient centered care in compliance with the hospitals mission statement for all cancer patients and their families through all treatment modalities i.e. surgery, chemotherapy.
- To ensure the safe administration of cytotoxics and all medications in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines and the Hospital Policy on the secure administration of cytotoxic drugs.
- To provide holistic Palliative care to patients and their family.
- To maintain a high standard of patient care and give a courteous and caring reception to all visitors and patients.
- Ensuring that the Hospital’s Policy is understood and carried out with Regard to the care and custody of drugs/medications, especially with regard to those covered by the Misuse of Drugs Act.
- To carry out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.
- To report to the Doctor on patient’s conditions, both verbally and in writing as necessary.
- Advise on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
- Recognize situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual.
- Recognize the significance of the observations made and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.
- Handle complaints in accordance with Hospital policy. To report all complaints, incidents or accidents to the nurse in charge of the ward or CON
- Giving and receiving Day/Night Reports. Acting as a team leader/member/ co-coordinator as necessary.
- To assist and participate in the ward career development programme.
- Will act as a mentor for new staff, and participate in their induction programme.
- Take every opportunity to maintain and improve knowledge and
- Competence, and take steps to keep up to date with clinical and nursing Developments.
- To assist and carry out as necessary all administrative nursing duties




- To establish a link with other multidisciplinary teams within the hospital.
- To be familiar with ward’s fire, lifting, health and safety policies and ensure that all nurses in the ward are aware of the policies.
- Ensuring that all staff in the ward are aware of Hospital and ward policies and procedures.
- Follow the hospitals nursing policies and procedures.
- To check ward equipment is correct and is in working order, ensuring its cleanliness after use and reporting defects promptly.
- Maintain effective channels of communication with patient’s relatives an all other grades of staff involved in patient care.
- Liaise and co-operate with medical staff and other members of the Multidisciplinary teams.
- 4.23 Participate in ward meetings and help promote new ideas.
- 4.24 Give support to the CNM showing leadership as necessary
- to maintain high morale based on good relationships.

- 4.25 Introducing new staff to their duties.
- 4.26 Supporting and giving guidance to junior staff and students as appropriate.
- 4.27 To be familiar with the Health and Safety legislation. To be aware of its

- Implications and ensure that local unit and departmental policies are followed.

• 5.0 Confidentiality

- 5.1 The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Hospital Policy.
- - Makes a complete assessment of all assigned patients on admission / at the beginning of the shift so as to plan the activities in order of priority while applying principles of safe patient care.
- Provides complete Nursing care - periodic Vital recording including pain, Bed making, Medication administrations, ECG, IV & Blood transfusions, personal requirements of the patient.




- Ensures that the protocol for conscious sedation is adhered to
- Maintains patients’ privacy
- Practices infections controls measures to protect patient from acquiring or spreading infection. Demonstrates awareness of potential/actual risks of infection and modes of transmission. Utilizes universal precautions in nursing practice.
- Maintain continuity of care through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
- Maintains required quantity of medicines and medical consumables for the unit
- Takes responsibility of caring for all equipments and furniture and other related items in the unit realizing the need for cost effective and safe nursing care.
- Demonstrates willingness to adjust the work pattern as directed by the superiors. Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient and family.
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel as required without delay.
- Implements emergency life resuscitative measures according to BLS & ACLS protocols.

- Documents patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, and concise and in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
- Patient records will be maintained as per hospital standards, ensuring safety and confidentiality of the records.
- Undertakes Patient and Attendants’ education, utilizing appropriate resources and documents in collaboration with the Nurse patient Educator.
- Participates actively in the unit-based and organizational quality management and/or quality improvement programs.
- Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, family and visitors.
- Uses equipment safely and efficiently and takes responsibility of the inventory of the unit as directed by the unit in charge.
- The entries in HIS and billing activity will be completed correctly and accurately
- Upholds the nursing code of ethics and acts as a role model to other staff members.
- Facilitates smooth discharge as per the protocols and doctors advice.
- Shift wise activities as outlined in the hospital will be adhered to, especially in the night shift
- Ensures adherence to accreditation protocols and best infection control practices
