Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Hydropower Design Engineer/Manager with approximately 10 plus years of experience in the planning, design, engineering review, and supervision of hydropower, pumped storage, dam, and water infrastructure projects. The role involves leading multidisciplinary teams in the development of feasibility studies, DPRs, hydraulic and structural designs, dam safety assessments, underground structures, and power generation infrastructure for domestic and international projects.

The candidate will contribute to the delivery of complex hydropower and water resource projects from concept and feasibility through detailed design and construction support while ensuring compliance with international engineering standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities-

Technical Leadership

- Lead hydropower and pumped storage project planning, layout optimization, and engineering studies.
- Perform and review feasibility studies, pre-feasibility studies, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and technical due diligence activities.
- Develop and assess alternative project layouts, dam heights, reservoir configurations, and water conductor systems.
- Undertake hydropower potential assessments, reservoir simulation studies, and energy generation analyses.
- Prepare hydraulic designs for:
- Diversion structures
- Spillways
- Intake structures
- Water conductor systems
- Surge shafts
- Energy dissipation arrangements
- Tailrace systems

Dam & Structural Engineering

- Conduct stability assessments of:
- Embankment dams
- Concrete gravity dams
- Barrages




- Powerhouse structures

- Perform settlement analysis and dam safety evaluations.
- Review foundation treatment and geotechnical improvement measures.
- Support instrumentation planning and monitoring programs for dams.
- Review structural designs and construction drawings for major hydraulic structures.

Underground & Tunnel Engineering

- Participate in design review and supervision of:
- Headrace tunnels (HRT)
- Tailrace tunnels (TRT)
- Underground powerhouses
- Ventilation shafts
- Access tunnels and adits

- Perform rock support and lining design reviews using geotechnical software.
- Support construction supervision, quality assurance, and contract administration activities for underground works.

Hydraulic & Water Resources Engineering

- Perform transient analysis and water hammer studies.
- Conduct tailwater and river hydraulic computations using HEC-RAS.
- Carry out flood studies, hydrological assessments, flow duration analysis, and reservoir operation studies.
- Develop hydraulic calculations and design reports for hydropower infrastructure.

Project Delivery & Commercial Support

- Prepare BOQs, cost estimates, and rate analyses.
- Contribute to project budgeting and financial assessments.




- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Review engineering deliverables prepared by consultants and EPC contractors.
- Support procurement, contract management, and construction monitoring activities.

Required Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Master's Degree in Water Resources, Hydraulic Engineering, Dam Engineering, or Hydropower Engineering preferred.

Skilled Membership

- Membership of recognized engineering professional bodies preferred.

Experience

- Approximately 10 years of relevant experience in hydropower, pumped storage hydro, dams, and water infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in feasibility studies, DPR preparation, hydraulic design, and dam engineering.
- Experience across international and domestic projects.
- Experience in both engineering design and construction supervision environments.
- Exposure to large-scale pumped storage projects exceeding 500 MW preferred.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary and international project teams.
