Role & responsibilities

- Take overall ownership of and be the single point of accountability for procurement at the Chennai office, supporting fabrication activities and both domestic and international project requirements
- Lead end-to-end sourcing and purchasing of steel plates, structural profiles/sections (beams, angles, channels, hollow sections), pipes, flanges and pipe fittings for oil & gas and heavy-fabrication projects
- Read and interpret project specifications, BOQs, MTOs, drawings and datasheets; ensure materials meet applicable standards (ASTM / API / ASME / EN) and client/project requirements
- Source, develop and qualify vendors, mills and stockists across India and overseas markets; build a reliable, cost-competitive supplier base for domestic and export supply
- Prepare RFQs, compare quotations, run technical/commercial evaluations, negotiate price, payment and delivery terms, and issue purchase orders
- Manage material approvals, mill test certificates (MTCs), inspection / third-party TPI documentation and full material traceability
- Coordinate procurement for multiple project locations and overseas/export operations handling cross-region enquiries, order placement, export/shipping documentation and expediting to meet international project timelines
- Manage import/export logistics, freight forwarding, incoterms, customs and port coordination, and long-lead-item tracking across regions
- Control procurement budgets, cost savings, lead times and supplier performance; present periodic MIS to management
- Coordinate with estimation, engineering/design, projects,



stores and accounts teams to align procurement with fabrication schedules and cash flow
- Instil discipline, documentation standards, QA/QC compliance and a culture of accountability across the procurement function

Preferred candidate profile

- 10+ years of procurement experience in the oil & gas / steel fabrication / EPC sector, including time in a lead / managerial capacity
- In-depth working knowledge of steel plates, profiles/sections, pipes and fittings grades, specifications, standards, sizing and applications
- Proven experience procuring for oil & gas / heavy-fabrication projects and dealing with mills, stockists, and both domestic and international suppliers
- Exposure to international / export project procurement and GCC / Middle East supply chains an advantage (candidate should be comfortable supporting overseas project requirements alongside the Chennai fabrication operation)
- Strong knowledge of material standards (ASTM / API / ASME / EN), MTCs, TPI and material-approval processes
- Sound understanding of import/export, incoterms, logistics and shipping documentation
- Excellent negotiation, vendor-management, cost-control and multi-region coordination skills
- Engineering (Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy) graduate preferred; other graduates with robust oil & gas / steel procurement experience considered; MBA / PG in Supply Chain / Materials Management (or CIPS / CPSM / APICS certification) an advantage
- Proficient in ERP (SAP / Oracle / MS Dynamics / Tally) procurement modules and advanced Excel
- Fluent in English; willing to be based in Chennai and to coordinate across time zones with overseas operations
