A Field Technician for environmental monitoring collects field data, operates specialized sampling equipment, and measures environmental parameters to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. They are responsible for testing air, water, and soil quality, calibrating instruments, and documenting findings to assist environmental scientists and regulators.
Core Responsibilities
- Field Sampling: Collect ambient air quality, stack emissions, surface/groundwater, wastewater, and soil samples per strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Equipment Maintenance: Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot field instruments like multi-gas analyzers, PM samplers, sound level meters, and water quality sondes.
- Data Logging: Record exact GPS locations, maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation, and process raw data for environmental investigations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor operations against local regulatory frameworks to ensure they adhere to standards.
- Safety & Hazard Control: Identify potential safety hazards in the field, adhere to risk assessments, and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
