Position :- Assistant Manager - HR
Department :- Human Resources & Administration
Location - Manufacturing Plant
Role Purpose
The AM Human Resources is responsible for leading the complete HR function of the steel manufacturing plant, ensuring effective manpower planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, statutory compliance, performance management, learning & development, compensation administration, industrial relations, and employee engagement. The role plays a strategic part in building a high-performance workforce while maintaining harmonious industrial relations and ensuring compliance with all applicable labour laws.
Key Responsibilities
HR Strategy & Business Partnering
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with plant business objectives.
- Partner with Plant Leadership to drive workforce productivity and organizational effectiveness.
- Support organizational restructuring, succession planning, and workforce optimization.
- Drive a performance-oriented and people-centric work culture.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead end-to-end recruitment for leadership, staff, engineers, supervisors, operators, and workmen.
- Prepare annual manpower plans and optimize workforce utilization.
- Coordinate with department heads to ensure timely hiring for critical positions.
- Manage onboarding and induction programs for new employees.
Performance Management
- Drive the Performance Management System (PMS) across the plant.
- Facilitate goal setting, performance reviews, and annual appraisals.
- Work with functional heads to identify high-potential employees and succession plans.
- Support career development and internal promotions.
Learning & Development
- Identify training needs through Training Need Analysis (TNA).
- Prepare and execute the annual training calendar.
- Organize technical, behavioral, safety, and leadership development programs.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain training records.
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
- Organize cultural events, celebrations, sports activities, and employee welfare programs.
- Conduct employee feedback surveys and implement improvement initiatives.
- Promote a positive work environment and enhance employee satisfaction.
Industrial Relations (IR)
- Maintain healthy industrial relations with employees, unions, and worker representatives.
- Handle disciplinary matters, grievance redressal, domestic inquiries, and conflict resolution.
- Participate in wage settlements and negotiations where applicable.
- Ensure industrial harmony and minimize disputes.
Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labour laws and statutory regulations.
- Monitor compliance related to Contract Labour, Factories Act, Shops & Establishments (where applicable), EPF, ESI, Bonus, Gratuity, Minimum Wages, Labour Welfare, and other statutory requirements.
- Coordinate inspections by government authorities and ensure timely statutory filings.
- Maintain all statutory registers and records.
Payroll & Compensation
- Oversee payroll processing in coordination with Finance.
- Ensure timely salary processing, reimbursements, incentives, and statutory deductions.
- Monitor attendance, leave management, overtime, and shift administration.
- Support compensation benchmarking and annual salary revisions.
HR Operations
- Ensure accurate maintenance of employee records and HR documentation.
- Oversee HRMS operations and employee lifecycle management.
- Prepare HR dashboards and MIS reports for management review.
- Drive process improvements and HR digitization initiatives.
Administration
- Supervise plant administration activities including housekeeping, transport, canteen,
guest house, security, and facility management.
- Ensure smooth functioning of administrative support services.
- Coordinate with external service providers and contractors.
Health, Safety & ESG Support
- Promote a strong safety culture in collaboration with the EHS team.
- Support employee health initiatives, medical camps, and wellness programs.
- Participate in ESG, CSR, and sustainability initiatives involving the workforce.

Educational Qualification
- MBA / PGDM in Human Resources, Personnel Management, or Industrial Relations.
- Master's Degree in Human Resources or Labour Welfare will be preferred.
- Certification in Labour Laws, HR Analytics, or Industrial Relations will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 1218 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Mandatory experience in Steel, TMT, Integrated Steel Plant, Rolling Mill, Heavy Engineering, Cement, Mining, or other process manufacturing industries.
- Strong exposure to Industrial Relations, statutory compliance, and plant HR operations.
- Experience with HRMS/ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent.
