Role:Kubernetes and Containerization - SME L3

Experience: 8-12 years

Location: Bangalore / Chennai

Key Responsibilities:

Role Details

- Job Family: Platform Engineering / Cloud Infrastructure

- Shift / On-call: 24x7 On-call (as per roster) / Production support

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to support and operate mission-critical, containerised platforms in production. The role focuses on AKS operations, Docker image lifecycle management, GitOps-driven deployments, CI/CD integration, and operational excellence, including incident management and stakeholder communication.

This is a hands-on role requiring deep experience in cloud-native platforms, production support, and automation-driven operations.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

1) Platform Operations (Container & Kubernetes)

- Design, deploy, operate, and optimise Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters in production environments
- Manage container lifecycle, including:
- Dockerfile creation and optimisation
- Container image versioning, tagging, scanning, and promotion strategies
- Secure image management using container registries (ACR or equivalent)

- Implement and maintain high availability, scalability, and resilience of containerised workloads
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimisation for Kubernetes clusters

2) Production Support & Incident Management

- Provide L2/L3 support for containerised platforms running in production
- Lead and participate in major incident (P1/P2) management, including:
- Rapid triage and root cause analysis
- Coordinating with application, cloud, and security teams




- Driving service restoration within SLA

- Own post-incident reviews (PIRs) and implement preventive actions
- Proactively identify platform risks and operational gaps and drive service improvements

3) Security, Reliability & Compliance

- Implement container and Kubernetes security best practices, including:
- Image vulnerability scanning and remediation
- Pod security standards and RBAC
- Secrets management and secure configuration handling

- Work closely with security teams to align with enterprise compliance and governance
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for Kubernetes workloads

4) Monitoring, Observability & Automation

- Set up and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting for AKS and workloads
- Drive automation for:
- Platform health checks

- Self-healing and autoscaling mechanisms

- Routine maintenance and operational tasks

- Continuously improve mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to resolve (MTTR)

5) Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

- Act as a key technical point of contact for:
- Application teams
- Cloud engineering
- Architecture and security teams
- Business stakeholders

- Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Contribute to platform documentation, runbooks, and operational standards

Qualifications & Skills

A)



Technical Skills (Mandatory)

- Strong hands-on experience with Docker / container image management
- Strong experience administering Kubernetes clusters, preferably AKS
- Proven experience supporting containerised platforms in production
- Strong knowledge of GitOps principles and workflows
- Hands-on experience with ArgoCD or equivalent GitOps tools
- Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integration with Kubernetes

B) Behavioral Competencies

- Strong incident management experience in 24x7 production environments
- Excellent stakeholder communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work under pressure during major incidents
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills

C) Desired / Good-to-Have Skills

- Experience with Azure cloud services beyond AKS
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / Bicep / ARM)
- Experience with SRE practices and reliability engineering
- Knowledge of DevSecOps tooling and practices
- Experience supporting largescale Kubernetes estates

6) Key Technical Focus Areas (GitOps & CI/CD Enablement)

- Implement and operate GitOps workflows to manage Kubernetes configurations and application deployments
- Use tools like ArgoCD (or similar) to:
- Ensure declarative, versioncontrolled deployments
- Maintain configuration drift management and automated reconciliation

- Integrate Kubernetes deployments with CI/CD pipelines for:

- Automated build, test, scan, and release of container images

- Promotion across environments (Dev / Test / Pre-Prod / Prod)
- Enforce best practices for branching strategies, approvals, rollbacks, and auditability
