Job Description for Asst. Manager (M08) secondary Engineering (Substation)

Key Responsibilities

1. Protection System Design

- Preparation of protection schemes for transmission & distribution substations (33kV to 765kV).
- Selection and configuration of protection relays (Distance, Differential, Overcurrent, REF, etc.).
- Relay coordination and setting calculations using tools like ETAP.

2. Control & Relay Panel Engineering

- Preparation of:
- Control & Relay Panel (CRP) schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Interlocking schemes

- Design of bay control, annunciation, and synchronization schemes

3. Substation Automation System (SAS)

- Engineering of SAS based on IEC 61850 protocol
- Preparation of:
- SCD/ICD files
- Network architecture diagrams

- Integration of IEDs and SCADA systems

4. Metering & Energy Accounting

- Design of ABT / SEM metering schemes
- Interface with SLDC/SCADA systems
- Compliance with regulatory standards

5. Engineering Documentation

- Preparation and review of:
- BOQ (Bill of Quantity)
- Technical specifications
- Design calculations
- Vendor drawings

- Coordination with vendors and clients

6. Interface & Coordination

- Coordination with:
- Primary design team
- Civil & layout teams
- Execution & commissioning teams

- Participation in FAT/SAT and site support

7. Standards & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with:
- IEC standards
- IEEE guidelines
- Utility-specific standards (PGCIL, State DISCOMs)

8. Cable Scheduling





- Preparation of cable schedules for control, protection, SCADA, and metering systems
- Cable sizing calculations based on load, voltage drop, and short-circuit withstand
- Preparation of:
- Interconnection cable schedule (between panels & equipment)
- Marshalling kiosk to control room cable schedule
- CT/PT, breaker, isolator, and bay equipment wiring schedules

- Identification of cable types (Control, Power, OFC, Ethernet, Copper)
- Optimization of cable routing in coordination with layout team
- Ensuring proper core allocation and ferruling philosophy
- Preparation of cable BOQ for tender and execution stage
- Coordination with site team for cable laying, termination, and testing.

Required Qualifications

- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
- M.Tech (Power Systems / Power Electronics)

Experience

- 710 years in substation secondary design (AIS/GIS)

Technical Skills

- Protection system design & relay setting calculations
- Knowledge of IEC 61850 & SAS architecture
- Hands-on with:
- AutoCAD
- ETAP

- Understanding of SCADA, RTU, and communication protocols

Soft Skills

- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and coordination
- Ability to handle multiple tenders/projects

Key Deliverables

- Protection schemes & calculations
- Approved drawings (schematics, wiring, logic diagrams)
- BOQ & technical documentation
- Vendor drawing approvals.
