1. Position Overview
The Transport Executive is responsible for managing day-to-day transportation operations, coordinating dispatch activities, managing transporter relationships and ensuring cost-effective logistics operations. The role is responsible for vehicle planning, vendor coordination, freight negotiation and ensuring timely deliveries with a high degree of efficiency and professionalism.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1 Transport Coordination
- Coordinate dispatches, vehicle movements and delivery schedules.
- Plan daily vehicle requirements as per dispatch priorities.
- Monitor vehicle placement and ensure timely movement of materials and finished goods.
- Coordinate with production, stores and dispatch teams for shipment planning.
- Track deliveries and update stakeholders on delivery status.
2.2 Transport Management
- Ensure smooth transportation operations and on-time deliveries.
- Monitor transportation performance and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Optimize vehicle utilization and reduce transportation delays.
- Maintain transport MIS and delivery performance records.
- Support continuous improvement in transportation efficiency.
2.3 Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate with transporters and logistics vendors for daily operations.
- Follow up with vendors for vehicle availability and dispatch schedules.
- Ensure timely communication regarding loading and unloading schedules.
- Maintain regular interaction with transport partners and service providers.
- Resolve transportation issues in coordination with vendors.
2.4 Vendor Management
- Evaluate transporter performance and maintain vendor relationships.
- Develop and maintain an approved vendor database.
- Monitor service quality, delivery commitments and compliance.
- Conduct periodic vendor reviews and performance assessments.
- Ensure vendors comply with company requirements and standards.
2.5 Price Negotiation
- Negotiate freight rates and transportation costs with vendors and transporters.
- Compare quotations and finalize competitive rates.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings in transportation operations.
- Monitor freight trends and market pricing.
- Maintain records of negotiated rates and agreements.
3. Required Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate in any discipline; preference for candidates with a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or Commerce.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in transport, logistics or dispatch operations.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing organization is preferred.
4. Technical & Functional Skills
- Knowledge of transport operations, dispatch planning and logistics coordination.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Valuable proficiency in MS Excel and MIS reporting.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and vendors.
- Understanding of freight costing and transportation documentation.
