Position Overview
The Technical Writer is responsible for developing, refining, and maintaining cyber recovery runbooks and operational procedure documentation for application and infrastructure teams. This role partners closely with application SMEs, project stakeholders, and governance teams to convert technical inputs into clear, practical, and executable recovery procedures. The Technical Writer will also support tabletop exercises, document identified gaps, and help improve runbook templates to ensure consistency, usability, and readiness during recovery events.
What you will do -
- Partner with application SMEs to draft, refine, and finalize comprehensive cyber recovery runbooks using standardized templates.
- Gather recovery steps, application dependencies, ownership details, prerequisites, validation checks, escalation paths, access requirements, and other information needed to make each runbook usable during a recovery event.
- Review runbooks for clarity, technical accuracy, consistency, completeness, and logical sequencing of recovery steps.
- Ensure recovery procedures are reproducible and include critical dependencies, handoffs, assumptions, access requirements, and validation steps.
- Lead and facilitate tabletop testing exercises with application teams to validate documented runbooks.
- Guide discussions with application owners and SMEs to confirm whether recovery steps are practical, correctly sequenced, and executable by the responsible teams.
- Document gaps, lessons learned, risks, issues, and required runbook updates identified during tabletop testing.
- Consolidate tabletop results in a structured format and provide inputs to the Project Manager for GRC system entry, tracking, and follow-up.
- Provide feedback on baseline runbook templates and recommend improvements for better data capture, usability, consistency, and completeness.
- Help standardize runbook wording, structure, and required fields across application teams.
What you will need to join -
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Technical Communications, Cybersecurity, or a related field; relevant certifications are preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in the Cyber Security / IT Infrastructure domain, preferably with exposure to cyber recovery, disaster recovery, business continuity, runbook development, technical writing, or operational procedure documentation.
- Strong technical writing experience with a focus on cyber recovery runbooks, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
- Awareness of Cyber Security, IT Infrastructure, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity concepts.
- Ability to work with application SMEs and translate technical inputs into clear, executable runbook steps.
- Solid quality review skills with the ability to identify gaps, dependencies, assumptions, and missing recovery details.
- Experience facilitating tabletop exercises, review sessions, or technical workshops.
- GRC awareness and ability to prepare structured inputs for tracking and governance activities.
- Excellent written communication, stakeholder coordination, attention to detail, and follow-up discipline.
