Purpose/Objective
It will be responsible for end-to-end tooling engineering activities for Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) manufacturing, including tooling design, development, procurement, process optimization, production support, cost reduction, vendor development, and new product introduction (NPI).
The role will ensure timely availability of robust tooling solutions that support quality, productivity, safety, and manufacturing excellence across blade, nacelle, hub, and structural component manufacturing operations.

Tool Design, Development & Procurement - Coordinate tooling design reviews with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and external vendors.
- Finalize tooling specifications, tolerances, materials, standards, and technical requirements.
- Lead tool manufacturing, inspection, trials, validation, and approval processes.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities based on technology, quality systems, cost competitiveness, delivery performance, and compliance.
- Ensure tooling solutions meet manufacturing, safety, quality, and productivity requirements.
- Drive development of fixtures, jigs, molds, handling tools, assembly tools, gauges, lifting tools, and special-purpose tooling.
- Support tooling localization and indigenous development initiatives.
2.
Production & Process Support - Provide shop-floor tooling support during production, pilot runs, breakdowns, and process stabilization activities.
- Troubleshoot tooling-related defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and Process Engineering teams to improve manufacturing performance.
- Support cycle time reduction, bottleneck elimination, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Ensure tooling availability to achieve production schedules and OEE targets.
- Analyze recurring tooling issues and implement sustainable engineering solutions.
3.
Quality Assurance & Compliance - Ensure all tooling complies with product drawings, GD&T; requirements, engineering specifications, and manufacturing standards.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for tooling-related quality concerns.
- Maintain tooling validation and qualification records as per IMS requirements.
- Support internal, customer, certification, and third-party audits.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in CAPA implementation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
4.
Process Development & Optimization - Develop, standardize, and continuously improve manufacturing processes to reduce cycle time, improve yield, and minimize scrap.
- Conduct process capability studies (Cp, Cpk) and identify corrective actions for unstable processes.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) initiatives.
- Establish and update process flow diagrams, SOPs, work instructions, and manufacturing standards.
- Drive material utilization improvements and optimize consumption against Design BOM.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and manufacturing readiness reviews.
- Perform process planning and feasibility studies for new products, variants, and capacity expansion projects.
- Prepare and validate PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Validation Reports, and manufacturing documentation.
- Coordinate tooling trials, pilot builds, and production ramp-up activities.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Tooling, Quality, R&D;, and Production teams during development projects.
5.
Tooling & Equipment Interface - Support tool design reviews, mold trials, and tooling improvement projects.
- Identify process-driven tooling issues and execute corrective modifications.
- Participate in machine and equipment selection, technical specification development, installation, commissioning, and acceptance.
- Ensure compatibility between tooling, equipment, product design, and production processes.
- Support automation and digitalization projects related to tooling and manufacturing operations.
6.
Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement - Drive tooling cost reduction through design optimization, standardization, modularization, and reuse strategies.
- Identify opportunities for tool commonization across products and manufacturing lines.
- Implement Lean, Kaizen, TPM, and operational excellence initiatives within tooling operations.
- Monitor tooling budgets, project costs, CAPEX utilization, and ROI.
- Improve tooling life, maintainability, reliability, and resource utilization.
- Lead value engineering and cost optimization projects.
7.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management - Develop and manage tooling suppliers and strategic partners.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations covering quality, delivery, responsiveness, innovation, and cost.
- Negotiate technical scope, project milestones, timelines, and commercial aspects.
- Coordinate with SCM, Finance, QA, Design, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production teams.
- Ensure on-time delivery and readiness of tooling for current product launches, capacity expansion projects, and production requirements.
- Support supplier audits, qualification, and continual improvement initiatives.
8.
Documentation & Reporting - Maintain tooling specifications, drawings, validation records, and Equipment Work Instructions.
- Prepare tooling improvement reports, technical evaluation reports, and project status updates.
- Ensure documentation control and revision management as per Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.
- Track tooling KPIs and generate management review reports.
- Maintain tooling databases, preventive maintenance records, and lifecycle documentation.

Qualifications and Experience
Education - B.
E.
/B.
Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience - 8–12 years of Experience in Wind Turbine, Heavy Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace, Composites, Renewable Energy Manufacturing, or Large Industrial Manufacturing.
