Vice President (Site Head) - Chemical Manufacturing

- Lead the end-to-end operational and strategic performance of a chemical facility. You are accountable for site P&L;, EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) compliance, and production optimization. The role bridges corporate strategy and daily plant execution.
- The role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in chemical plant operations, manufacturing excellence, safety compliance, operational efficiency, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

P&L; & Budget Management:

- Own and manage the site budget, controlling operational expenses (OPEX) and capital expenditures (CAPEX) to drive cost-effective operations and maximize profitability.
- Lead complete site operations including production, maintenance, utilities, EHS, quality, supply chain, and engineering functions.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising safety and quality.
- Monitor profitability and operational efficiency metrics.
- Support strategic planning and investment decisions for plant expansion and growth.

Operational Excellence:

- Direct production, maintenance, QC, and engineering functions to meet output targets. Implement continuous improvement strategies such as Lean Six Sigma to optimize yield and minimize waste.




- Drive operational excellence across manufacturing units to ensure maximum productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
- Ensure uninterrupted plant operations while maintaining optimal capacity utilization.
- Develop and implement long-term operational strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Oversee production planning and execution to meet business and customer demand requirements.
- Lead transformation initiatives for operational excellence and digital manufacturing adoption.

Quality and Total Productivity Management:

- Improve manufacturing processes through Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor plant KPIs including OEE, yield improvement, downtime reduction, energy efficiency, and cost optimization.
- Ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.

EHS & Regulatory Compliance:

- Enforce strict safety and environmental standards. Ensure 100% compliance with pollution control, ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) operations, and statutory factory regulations.
- Drive a strong safety culture across the plant with focus on zero harm and process safety management.
- Lead audits related to safety, environment, pollution control, and statutory compliance.
- Implement best practices in hazardous chemical handling and risk management.

Maintenance:

- Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure reliability and efficiency of plant equipment and utilities.
- Lead plant modernization, automation, debottlenecking, and capex projects.

Team Leadership & Development:

- Lead multidisciplinary teams, overseeing talent development, workforce training, and labor relations. Cultivate a strong culture of safety and operational discipline.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Drive employee engagement, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.

Stakeholder Management:

- Collaborate with R&D;, corporate supply chain, sales, and planning teams to align production outputs with customer demand and overall business strategy.




- Collaborate with corporate leadership, customers, vendors, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic business planning and organizational growth initiatives.
- Support new product introduction and scale-up activities.
- Ensure alignment between business goals and manufacturing capabilities.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Bachelor’s degree in chemical (Mandatory) and MBA is preferred with 20 to 25 years of progressive manufacturing experience, with at least 5 to 7 years in a senior executive role (e.g., Plant Manager, Unit Head, or Operations Head) with an Chemical Manufacturing Organisation.

2. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience managing integrated chemical manufacturing sites, driving operational performance, ensuring EHS compliance, and leading large cross-functional teams while achieving business and production targets.

3. Deep technical knowledge of hazardous chemical handling, unit operations (e.g., distillation, hydrogenation, bromination), and plant utilities.

4. Experience in handling large-scale continuous/discrete chemical plants.

5. Strong understanding of EHS, process safety management (PSM), and statutory compliance.

6. Expertise in TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Operational Excellence.

7. Exposure to plant automation and digital manufacturing initiatives.

8. Knowledge of utilities, maintenance systems, and engineering practices.

9. Strategic leadership and decision-making.

10. Strong people management and team-building capabilities.

11. Stakeholder and vendor management.

12. Change management and transformation leadership.

13. Strong crisis management, strategic planning, and leadership presence.

14. Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
