Functional Expert Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence (BW & MIS)

Reports To: Project Manager

Experience: 5+ years total IT experience, with 5+ years in BI / Data Warehouse / Analytics functional roles

Engagement: Implementation through Go-Live and stabilisation, with support during the maintenance phase as required

Role Summary

BW & MIS is an enterprise, AI-based data warehouse with Business Intelligence, Advanced Analytics and MIS, consolidating data from multiple utility systems into KPI dashboards, MIS reports and analytics use-cases.

The Functional Expert translates business requirements into data-warehouse design, ETL, BI, KPI definitions and analytics use-cases, and validates that delivery matches intent. This is a functional / business-analysis role, not a hands-on development or data-science role.

a. Data Management

Source-to-target mapping, master / reference data and data-quality rules.

b. Advanced Analytics

Define predictive / AI-ML use-cases and validate the approach with the data team.

c. Data Warehouse

Functional design of subject areas, dimensions, KPIs and history.

d. Business Intelligence & MIS

KPI, dashboard and MIS report definitions with drill-down and slice-&-dice, on web and mobile.

e. Alert & Investigation Framework

Exception / deviation alerts to metric owners, with explanation and investigation workflow.

f. Forecasting & Demand Planning

Demand and load-forecasting use-cases; validate and review outputs.

Key Responsibilities

- Run the As-Is and GAP analysis; capture KPI and reporting requirements across all source systems, including drill-down hierarchy and refresh cadence.
- Author the FRS,



requirement specifications and source-to-target mapping; contribute to the design document (HLD & LLD).
- Define data-quality rules (de-duplication, matching, householding) for the warehouse.
- Translate business problems into analytics / AI-ML use-cases (anomaly detection, risk scoring, forecasting) and validate the approach — without building models personally.
- Define the KPI / metric dictionary, dashboards, MIS reports and the alert framework (exception / deviation notifications with an investigation workflow).
- Guide the ETL / BI / data team through functional specs and review delivered dashboards, reports and alerts before sign-off.
- Define UAT scenarios; support integration testing, pilot, cutover and Go-Live; support training and knowledge transfer.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Solid functional knowledge of Data Warehouse / BI concepts — schema design, ETL, OLAP, drill-down and KPI design.
- Working familiarity with enterprise BI tools (e.g., Apache Superset, Grafana, Power BI, Tableau).
- Functional understanding of AI / ML concepts (classification, regression, clustering, forecasting) — enough to validate and review, not to build.
- Experience authoring As-Is / GAP, FRS, source-to-target mapping and KPI / metric dictionaries for multi-source BI programs.
- Strong cross-functional coordination with business teams, domain SMEs and technical / OEM teams.
- Excellent client-facing communication; comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders.

Preferred

- Utility / DISCOM domain exposure (billing, consumer service, energy audit, GIS / network, MDMs etc.).
- Exposure to anomaly or consumer-behaviour analytics.
- Prior experience on large Government / PSU IT programs.
