About the role:
The Manager, Insurance Advisory is responsible for developing and maintaining tools that translate complex individual life insurance concepts into actionable sales strategies for our distribution partners. This role manages the end-to-end development lifecycle of insurance concept tools—from ideation and specification through implementation and ongoing maintenance—ensuring compliance with corporate model risk management policy. The Manager collaborates with cross-functional partners including Distribution, Product, Taxation, Illustrations, and the Insurance Advisory team to deliver tools that enable sales teams to differentiate Sun Life in the marketplace.
What will you do?
Develop and maintain insurance concept tools that translate complex life insurance concepts into actionable strategies for advisors and distribution partners
Ensure all tools comply with corporate model risk management policy through proper documentation, testing, and version control
Create detailed calculation specifications for insurance concept tools, ensuring accuracy of all assumptions and formulas
Test and validate tool functionality and outputs in collaboration with Distribution and Product teams
Manage and prioritize tool development initiatives in alignment with key stakeholders and business priorities
Provide technical support for existing tools and respond to user inquiries from distribution partners
Conduct peer reviews of tools created by business partners and apply best practices
Train Regional Sales Directors, Business Development Representatives, and other wholesale team members on the use of insurance concept tools
Monitor the competitive landscape for insurance concept tools and sales strategies
What do you need to succeed?
3 to 5 years of experience supporting sales strategies in insurance and financial planning
Strong knowledge of individual life insurance products and sales strategies
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, modeling, data analysis); strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint
High level of quantitative and analytical ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
Proven collaboration and partnership skills across cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong self-management and prioritization skills
Detail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and quality
Preferred Skills:
Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Finance, or Business
Professional designation such as CFP, LLQP, CLU, or progress toward actuarial credentials (ASA/FSA)
Experience with VBA programming and Excel macro development
Understanding of the individual life insurance sales process and advisor needs
Familiarity with Sun Life’s individual life insurance products and distribution channels
Knowledge of tax and estate planning concepts
Understanding of model risk management principles and governance
Bilingualism (French and/or Mandarin) is an asset
