Job Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and technical Mechanical Procurement Engineer to manage the sourcing and purchasing of materials, equipment, and sub-contracting services for our steel fabrication operations. In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering, project management, and supply chain.

You will analyze technical drawings (Bill of Materials), source high-quality raw steel (plates, beams, pipes), negotiate with global and local suppliers, and ensure that all purchased mechanical components and fabricated parts are delivered on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with industry engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Sourcing & Bill of Materials (BOM) Review

- Engineering Alignment: Analyze engineering drawings and technical specifications to extract and verify the Bill of Materials (BOM) for structural steel, piping, fasteners, and mechanical components.
- Technical Evaluation: Review supplier quotes (RFQs) to ensure technical compliance with project specifications, design codes (e.g., ASTM, ASME, AISC, EN), and quality requirements.
- Alternative Material Identification: Recommend cost-effective material alternatives or equivalent grades without compromising structural integrity or project standards.

2. Supplier Management & Negotiation

- Supplier Selection: Identify, evaluate, and pre-qualify reliable mills, steel stockholders, hardware vendors, and specialized sub-contractors (e.g., galvanizing, non-destructive testing, machining services).
- Commercial Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contracts to secure the best total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Relationship Management: Maintain and build robust,



long-term relationships with key steel mills and distributors to ensure priority allocation during market shortages.

3. Supply Chain, Logistics & Expediting

- Lead Time Management: Coordinate purchase order (PO) releases to align material arrivals with the shop floor’s production schedule, minimizing inventory holding costs.
- Expediting: Track and expedite critical deliveries, proactively identifying supply chain bottlenecks and implementing mitigation plans to avoid production downtime.
- Logistics Coordination: Oversee the logistics of heavy steel shipments, ensuring proper handling, transport permits, and customs clearance for imported materials.

4. Quality Assurance & Compliance

- Material Certification: Ensure all incoming raw materials are accompanied by Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) to guarantee traceability (EN 10204 3.1/3.2).
- Discrepancy Resolution: Partner with Quality Control (QC) to resolve material discrepancies, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and reject defective supplies.

Requirements & QualificationsEducation & Experience

- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline. A diploma in Supply Chain Management is a strong asset.
- Experience: 3 to 5+ years of procurement or strategic sourcing experience specifically within heavy steel fabrication, structural steel, or EPC contracting.

Technical Skills

- Deep knowledge of steel grades (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steels) and standard shapes (beams, plates, hollow sections, flanges).
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, welding specifications, and mechanical datasheets.
- Familiarity with international steel standards (ASTM, ASME, EN, DIN).

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹48,229.76 per month
