Job Summary
As a Senior Embedded Device Tester, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of embedded software products. You will be responsible for testing software code in accordance with established quality standards, meeting client requirements, and contributing to the overall success of our projects. Your expertise will help identify defects early in the development process, allowing for timely resolutions and enhanced product performance.
Overview:
As a member of the Device Validation team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality releases. Your responsibilities will include managing releases for multiple products simultaneously, which involves effective communication with various stakeholders, planning validation processes, defining test scopes, analyzing reports, and overseeing sign-off activities. You will be tasked with identifying issues, creating tasks in ADO, and providing regular updates on status and risks to stakeholders. This role also requires hands-on test execution, debugging issues, and reproducing customer issues on Microsoft Surface devices. Additionally, you will be responsible for setting up devices in the lab for testing and debugging purposes.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in validation and managing the end-to-end testing release process.
• Proficient in manual testing in areas such as Audio, Camera, Graphics, Display, etc.
• Strong communication skills with prior experience in engaging with different project stakeholders.
• Excellent debugging skills to quickly reproduce issues in the lab.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Knowledgeable in bug management and test case design.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in device or laptop validation.
• Familiarity with lab environments and validation processes.
Technical Skills:
• Proficient in handling complex testing processes, test planning, and test case designing.
• Experience in validating areas such as Audio, Camera, Graphics, Firmware, Display, Driver, etc.
• Skilled in setting up devices, remote enablement, and debugging on Windows platforms.
• Knowledge of operating systems (preferably Windows) and their installation and configuration.
• Strong bug-finding skills and the ability to understand features.
• Prior experience with test management tools.
• Understanding of PowerShell or any other scripting language.
Responsibilities:
• Independently manage feature release processes, including coordination with Project Managers and Development teams, understanding features, and estimating validation timelines.
• Ensure timely sign-off from Validation for multiple releases, preventing any issue slippage.
• Participate in project kick-off activities, track feature stories, and ensure payload readiness in ADO.
• Finalize test scopes, test various subsystems, report test progress promptly, and inform stakeholders of any timeline deviations.
• Ensure all necessary hardware and setups are available before starting validation.
• Utilize ADO effectively to create tasks for each testing activity.
• Participate in bug triage meetings, use the bug management tool in ADO appropriately, and reproduce customer issues.
Key Responsibilities
1. Create And Review Test Cases Based On Functional Specifications And Software Requirement Specifications, Ensuring Comprehensive Coverage Of Testing Scenarios For Embedded Systems.
2. Execute Functionality Testing In Alignment With The Test Plan And Respective Test Cases, Utilizing Python For Automation Where Applicable To Enhance Efficiency.
3. Contribute To The Development Of Test Plans, Ensuring They Accurately Reflect The Requirements And Scope Of The Work Assigned To The Team.
4. Track Test Coverage, Defect Density, And Other Relevant Metrics, Compiling And Publishing Progress Reports To Inform Stakeholders Of Testing Outcomes.
5. Coordinate Discussions With The Testing Team And Interact With Clients To Provide Updates On Testing Progress And Resolve Any Issues That May Arise.
Skill Requirements
1. Solid Understanding Of Embedded Device Testing Principles And Methodologies.
2. Proficient In Python For Test Automation And Script Development.
3. Familiarity With Testing Tools And Frameworks Relevant To Embedded Systems.
4. Solid Knowledge Of Software Testing Life Cycle (Stlc) And Quality Assurance Best Practices.
5. Excellent Communication Skills For Effective Coordination With Team Members And Clients.
Other Requirements
1. Optional But Valuable: Istqb Certified Tester Or Similar Software Testing Certification.
