The Senior SharePoint Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for executing and supporting SharePoint Online tenant to tenant migrations within Microsoft 365, administering SharePoint Online environments, and providing advanced end user support. This role focuses on planning, migrating, validating, and supporting SharePoint sites during organizational transitions, using industry standard migration tools (such as ShareGate) while ensuring secure, well governed, and reliable SharePoint Online services.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute,
and support SharePoint Online tenant to tenant migrations as part of large scale Microsoft 365 organizational transitions, ensuring minimal disruption to business users.
• Perform inventory, assessment, and remediation of SharePoint Online sites, hubs, libraries, permissions, and customizations prior to migration.
• Execute SharePoint Online content migrations using industry standard tools (e.g., ShareGate), including pre staging, incremental migrations, and cutover activities.
• Validate migrated SharePoint sites by confirming content integrity, metadata accuracy, permissions mapping, navigation, and user access in the target tenant.
• Administer SharePoint Online environments, including site provisioning, hub site management, permissions, external sharing settings, and tenant level configuration.
• Collaborate with identity, security, and Active Directory teams to validate group mappings, SID history scenarios, and access continuity during and after migrations.
• Provide advanced end user support for SharePoint Online issues, including post migration access problems, OneDrive/SharePoint sync issues, and legacy link remediation.
• Update and maintain SharePoint governance standards, ensuring sites adhere to organizational security, compliance, and information architecture requirements.
• Support post migration activities such as hub navigation updates, URL changes, legacy site read only enforcement, and guest user re mapping.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures related to SharePoint Online administration and migration execution.
• Partner with project managers, business stakeholders,
and service desk teams to ensure clear communication, successful cutovers, and smooth post migration stabilization.
Skill Requirements
5-7+ years of hands on experience administering SharePoint Online within Microsoft 365, including site collections, hub sites, permissions, sharing policies, and tenant level configuration.
• Proven 2-3+ years of direct experience executing SharePoint Online tenant to tenant migrations, including discovery, pre migration cleanup, content staging, cutover, and post migration.
• Hands on expertise with SharePoint migration tools such as ShareGate, including permission mapping, incremental migrations, reporting, and error remediation.
• Strong understanding of SharePoint Online security and permissions models, including Azure AD groups, Microsoft 365 groups, site level permissions, and inheritance behavior during migrations.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) concepts as they relate to SharePoint Online, including user identities, group membership, and cross tenant access considerations.
Other Requirements
Familiarity with tenant to tenant identity and access continuity scenarios, including group re mapping and collaboration with directory services teams during migrations.
• Experience validating migrated environments for content integrity, metadata accuracy, permissions parity, navigation, and user access post migration.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex SharePoint Online issues, including access problems, broken links, legacy URL remediation, and external/guest user access post migration.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, migration runbooks, validation checklists, and operational procedures related to SharePoint Online administration and migrations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 admin portals (SharePoint Admin Center, Microsoft 365 Admin Center) for monitoring, configuration, and support activities.
