Job Summary
Senior VMware Engineer – Job Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior VMware Engineer to join our IT infrastructure team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing VMware environments, including vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and related technologies. The ideal candidate will also have experience with VMware Aria (formerly vRealize), leveraging it for performance monitoring, alerting automation, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design, deploy, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi, vCenter, and vSAN, HPE SimpliVity, and Dell VxRail clusters in conjunction with other teams.
• Monitor, optimize, and alert on the VMware infrastructure for performance, scalability, and reliability using Aria Operations, HPE OneView, and other tools.
• Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of VMware-related issues.
• Ensure VMware best practices for security, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Perform firmware and software upgrades for all VMware infrastructure.
• Respond to incidents from business users as well as infrastructure monitors. Engage vendors for troubleshooting and resolve tickets in a timely manner to reduce impact to business operations.
• Follow all change management processes for incident, problem, and change to ensure proper audit trail and compliance of all changes.
• Utilize VMware Aria Operations (vRealize Operations Manager)



to monitor and alert on compute, storage, and network performance, incidents, health checks, capacity planning, orchestration, log analysis, and network configuration.
• Automate all common tasks using tools such as PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform, and vSphere APIs.
• Ensure VMware environment aligns with security best practices adhering to regulatory compliance standards where required.
• Conduct regular audits and enforce RBAC and access controls in vCenter.
• Document standard operating procedures (SOPs), architecture diagrams, and maintain knowledge base articles for use by support teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in VMware engineering, including vSphere, vCenter, ESXi.
• Strong expertise in VMware Aria Operations, Aria Automation, and Aria Log Insight.
• Hands-on experience with PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform, or other automation tools.
• Experience with Windows Server, Linux, and hybrid cloud environments (AWS and Azure).
• Strong troubleshooting skills in networking, storage, and virtualization.
• VMware VCP-DCV or VCAP certification is preferred.
• Experience with hybrid cloud architecture is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
1. Lead end-to-end operations and continuous improvement of VMware vSphere and vSAN environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with client SLAs.
2. Utilize VMware vCenter and vSAN administration tools to analyze, troubleshoot,



and resolve complex infrastructure issues, driving root cause analysis and preventive actions.
3. Oversee implementation and optimization of VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) for disaster recovery planning and execution, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
4. Deploy and manage ARIA Monitoring Tools to proactively monitor virtualization infrastructure, generate actionable insights, and enhance incident response.
5. Mentor and guide support teams on advanced VMware best practices, fostering technical growth and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
6. Collaborate with internal teams to develop and refine operational processes, leveraging VMware platform features for improved efficiency and reporting.
7. Evaluate emerging VMware technologies and recommend creative solutions for process optimization and infrastructure scalability.
8. Ensure transparent communication of project objectives, progress, and risks to stakeholders, facilitating effective issue resolution and client satisfaction.

Skill Requirements
1. Excellent Knowledge Of Vmware Vsan Deployment, Management, And Performance Tuning.
2. Advanced Skills In Vmware Srm For Disaster Recovery Planning And Orchestration.
3. Solid Experience With Aria Monitoring Tools Or Equivalent Platforms For Virtualization Monitoring And Analytics.
4. Strong Leadership And Mentoring Abilities, With Proven Experience Guiding Support Teams In Complex Environments.
5. InDepth Understanding Of ItilBased Operations Management, Incident, And Change Management Practices.
6. Excellent Communication And Stakeholder Management Skills.

Other Requirements
1. VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCAPDCV) is highly recommended.
2. ITIL Foundation certification is optional but valuable.
