About SwiffyLabs
SwiffyLabs builds a high-performance, multi-tenant B2B SaaS platform serving global enterprise financial institutions. Our engineering team operates a distributed, event-driven system running on Kubernetes, built on Java and Spring Boot, with a modern data and observability stack. We operate with a lean, high-ownership engineering culture where every engineer has direct impact and architectural agency over the systems they build and run.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer III (Backend / Platform) to architect, build, and operate the foundational services and cloud infrastructure powering our core SaaS engine. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of complex software development and system architecture. You will write high-throughput microservices, design scalable multi-tenant architectures, build event-driven pipelines, and manage production infrastructure on Kubernetes. This role is built for an engineer who excels at extreme ownershipfrom high-level system design to hands-on implementation and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend & Platform Architecture :
- Microservices Design : Build and maintain scalable backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot, adhering to robust high-level and low-level design principles.
- Multi-Tenancy & Isolation : Design core platform capabilities including tenant isolation, data partitioning, RBAC, and capacity planning for enterprise scale.
- Platform SDKs & Standards : Build shared platform services, internal libraries, and frameworks to establish unified standards for API design, messaging, and data access across teams.
- Distributed Systems & Data Pipelines :
- Event-Driven Architecture :
Design, optimize, and operate event-driven streaming systems using Apache Kafka, managing topic design, consumer group scaling, and schema evolution.
- Data Integration : Build and maintain high-throughput data pipelines using Change Data Capture (CDC) and replication strategies between transactional and analytical datastores.
- Infrastructure, Observability & Reliability :
- Kubernetes Operations : Own application infrastructure on Kubernetes, managing deployment configurations, autoscaling rules, resource allocation, and troubleshooting production workloads.
- Full-Stack Observability : Drive observability standards (metrics, logs, distributed tracing, alerting, and dashboards) to minimize MTTR and improve platform visibility.
- High Availability & DR : Define and validate disaster recovery and high-availability strategies, failover procedures, and target recovery objectives (RPO/RTO).
- On-Call & Incident Management : Participate in an on-call rotation, lead incident response, perform post-incident reviews (RCAs), and drive systemic remediations.
- Technical Leadership & Quality :
- Engineering Standards : Enforce quality through peer code reviews, unit/integration testing, CI/CD pipeline automation, and container security scanning.
- Mentorship & Culture : Mentor junior engineers and interns,
author technical RFCs, and foster a strong culture of documentation and knowledge-sharing.
Required Qualifications
- Core Experience : Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering (or equivalent) with 5+ years of skilled backend engineering experience building and running high-scale production systems.
- Language & Framework : Expert proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
- CS Fundamentals : Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, memory management, and distributed systems architecture.
- Distributed Streaming : Production experience with distributed messaging systems, specifically Apache Kafka.
- Containerization & Orchestration : Hands-on experience deploying and operating workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Database & Data Modeling : Strong relational database expertise (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including schema design, query optimization, and migrations.
- Cloud Platforms : Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure), CI/CD automation, and infrastructure tooling.
- Production Ownership : Demonstrated track record of owning live production systems, configuring monitoring/alerting, and handling on-call :
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
- Prior background in CDC tooling (e.g., Debezium) or distributed tracing frameworks (OpenTelemetry).
- Experience in high-growth B2B SaaS, fintech, or payment processing systems.
Interview Process
- Round 1 : Hands-On Coding & Core Java Mechanics (60 minutes)
- Round 2 : System Design & Data Architecture
- Round 3 : Platform Solutioning, Resilience & Culture
