Engineering Manager

About the Role
Finkraft is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers building production-grade, money-movement and compliance systems at scale. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set technical direction, review and contribute to architecture and code, and grow a team of engineers, while owning delivery, reliability, and quality for your area. You should be equally comfortable in a design review, a production incident, and a 1:1 about someone's career growth.
What You'll Do
•Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend and full-stack engineers; own hiring, performance, and career development for your team.
•Set and enforce technical direction and architecture decisions across services, in partnership with senior engineers and other engineering managers.
•Stay hands-on — review designs and code, debug production issues, and step into implementation when needed.
•Own end-to-end delivery for your team's roadmap: scoping, sequencing, risk management, and shipping to production.
•Drive engineering practices — CI/CD, testing, code review, observability, and secure software development — across the team.
•Partner with product, compliance, and other engineering teams on integration architecture for payments, e-invoicing, and reconciliation systems.
•Own capacity planning and cloud cost accountability for your team's services.
•Champion AI-native engineering practices to increase team velocity and output quality.
Requirements
Languages and Runtimes
•Go and / or Python at production scale.
•Comfort moving between typed and dynamic languages.
•JavaScript / TypeScript familiarity for adjacent work.
Cloud and Infrastructure
•AWS in production — ECS / Fargate, Aurora PostgreSQL, SQS, Lambda, KMS, IAM, CloudWatch, S3.
•Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
•Comfort with cloud cost modelling and capacity planning.
Data and Storage
•PostgreSQL at depth — schema design, query performance, transactions.
•Redis for caching and queues.
•Event stores, message queues,
and the design choices between them.
•Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL stores is useful.
Architecture
•Event-driven systems, API-first design, integration architecture, distributed systems.
•Microservices and modular monoliths — and the judgement to pick the right one.
•Idempotency, retries, audit trails, eventual consistency.
Domain Technology (Preferred)
•Payments systems, virtual card / VAN orchestration, settlement and reconciliation.
•E-invoicing (Peppol, UBL), ERP or accounting integrations.
•Identity and KYC flows, tax-tech, or comparable money-movement and compliance systems.
Engineering Practices
•CI / CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, code review.
•Observability and monitoring, secret management, dependency and container scanning.
•Track record of building these into a team from day one — not bolting them on later.
AI-Native Engineering
•Practical experience using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Sonar, Semgrep, Playwright, and modern CI/CD workflows to accelerate development, testing, documentation, code review, and operations.
•A track record of creating engineering leverage for a team, not simply writing more code yourself.
Leadership Experience
•12+ years of overall engineering experience, including prior experience managing or leading engineering teams.
•Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical depth with people management and delivery ownership.
•Robust communication skills for working across engineering, product, compliance, and business stakeholders.
Location
This role is based in Bangalore, India.
