Job Overview:

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to own airframe and structural subsystems on our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms. Working alongside our senior design lead and the avionics, propulsion and integration teams, you will take assigned subsystems from concept through CAD, analysis, prototyping and flight-test support to production release.

Key Responsibilities:

-Own the mechanical design of assigned UAV subsystems (airframe structures, booms and arms, landing gear, payload and battery bays, gimbal and antenna mounts) across fixed-wing, rotary-wing and hybrid VTOL platforms, from concept to production release.

-Build and release 3D CAD models, sub-assemblies and top-level assemblies in CATIA / SolidWorks / NX, covering surfacing, sheet metal, machined and molded parts, and wire harness routing.

-Produce manufacturing drawings with correct GD&T;, datum schemes and tolerance stack-up analysis, and drive them through design review to controlled release.

-Perform structural sizing and hand calculations for components and joints (bolted, bonded, riveted), and justify material and section choices with numbers rather than precedent.

-Own and defend mass properties for your subsystems: maintain the mass budget, CG envelope and inertia estimates, and flag deviations early rather than at integration.

-Design for the operating environment: vibration isolation,

sealing to IP54 / IP67 where specified, thermal paths for avionics and motors, and dust, rain and salt-fog exposure.

-Design for manufacturing and assembly against our actual vendor base: CNC machining, sheet metal, composite layup, injection molding and additive manufacturing, selecting processes on cost, lead time and repeatability.

-Create and maintain the Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) and Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM), with disciplined part numbering, revision control and change management in the PLM / PDM system.

-Build and test prototypes yourself: fit checks, assembly trials, static load and stiffness tests, vibration and environmental screening in the spirit of MIL-STD-810, and structured teardown after flight test.

-Prepare and maintain technical documentation supporting manufacturing, qualification testing and DGCA / CSUAS certification submissions.

-Work day to day with manufacturing, integration, avionics, propulsion and payload teams so that designs integrate cleanly, are buildable on the shop floor and are serviceable in the field.

-Support root-cause analysis on field and flight-test failures and drive corrective design action into the next build standard.

Key Skills and Competencies:

-3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience on UAV, aerospace, robotics or other weight-critical, field-deployed hardware, with at least one product carried through to production or a flight-qualified build.

-Solid 3D CAD capability in CATIA, SolidWorks or NX: surfacing, part and large-assembly modelling, sheet metal, and wire harness design.

-Working knowledge of Ansys Workbench or equivalent for static, modal and buckling analysis, with the judgement to know when a hand calculation is sufficient and when it is not.

-Solid command of GD&T;, datum selection and tolerance stack-up analysis, demonstrated in drawings you have released.

-Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and material selection across aluminum and composite structures, machining, sheet metal, molding and 3D printing, including the design rules and cost drivers of each.

-Working knowledge of UAV architecture (avionics, propulsion, aircraft structures, sensors and payloads) and the mechanical constraints each subsystem imposes.

-Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to work across engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams.

Good to Have:

-Composite design and layup experience: CFRP tubes and skins, sandwich panels, mold and tooling design.

-Experience designing IP54 / IP67 sealing and defense-grade environmental requirements.

-Exposure to gimbal, EO / IR payload, antenna and release-mechanism design.

-Experience supporting DGCA type certification or CSUAS compliance documentation.

-Familiarity with PLM tools such as Teamcenter, Windchill, Enovia or SolidWorks PDM, and formal engineering change workflows.

-Basic CFD or aerodynamic sizing exposure for airframe drag and cooling flow.

-Prior work on Indian defence, MHA or paramilitary programmes and their qualification cycles.

Qualifications:
B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant product design experience.

Location: Bengaluru, India (on-site)
