ROLE PURPOSE
The Manager Knowledge Management will play a pivotal role in driving the firm's knowledge strategy, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, and ensuring that legal knowledge assets are effectively managed, leveraged, and continuously enhanced to support business objectives.
The role requires a strategic thinker who can partner closely with Partners, Practice Heads, lawyers, and business services teams to develop innovative knowledge solutions, improve lawyer productivity, and enhance client service delivery. The incumbent will lead key KM initiatives, oversee the firm's knowledge repositories and precedent management programs, drive adoption of emerging technologies including AI, and ensure that knowledge resources remain accurate, accessible, and commercially valuable.
As a trusted advisor and relationship manager, the individual will collaborate across practice groups to identify knowledge gaps, implement best practices, and establish governance frameworks that promote consistency, quality, and efficiency throughout the firm.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge Strategy & Leadership
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine the firm's Knowledge Management strategy in alignment with business goals and practice area priorities.
- Partner with Practice Heads and Partners to identify strategic KM opportunities and drive knowledge-led initiatives.
- Establish governance frameworks, policies, and standards for knowledge creation, maintenance, validation, and archival.
- Lead firm-wide KM transformation and modernization initiatives.
- Drive a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning across the organization.
Legal Knowledge & Precedent Management
- Oversee the firm's precedent, know-how, and legal content management programs.
- Ensure high-quality, current, and commercially relevant precedents are maintained across all practice groups.
- Develop frameworks for capturing, organizing,
and disseminating legal know-how and matter experience.
- Lead initiatives to capture tacit knowledge from senior lawyers and departing professionals.
- Establish quality assurance processes for legal content and knowledge assets.
Knowledge Systems & Technology
- Lead the evolution of KM platforms, document repositories, and knowledge solutions.
- Work closely with IT, Digital, and Innovation teams to implement technology-driven KM solutions.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled legal technologies, search solutions, and automation tools.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve knowledge discovery and lawyer productivity.
- Ensure effective metadata, taxonomy, and content classification frameworks are maintained across KM systems.
Stakeholder Management & Relationship Building
- Serve as the primary KM partner for assigned practice groups and business functions.
- Build robust relationships with Partners, lawyers, and leadership teams to understand business requirements and deliver tailored KM solutions.
- Act as a change champion to encourage adoption of KM initiatives and technologies.
- Facilitate cross-practice collaboration and sharing of best practices.
Knowledge Sharing, Training & Communication
- Develop and execute engagement programs to promote KM awareness and adoption.
- Design and deliver KM training sessions, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
- Support communication strategies that showcase KM successes, new resources, and thought leadership.
- Create initiatives that encourage lawyer participation and knowledge contribution.
AI, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Drive the adoption of AI and legal technology solutions to enhance knowledge capture, search, retrieval, and lawyer productivity.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement AI-powered KM initiatives aligned with the firm's strategic objectives.
- Partner with legal, technology, and business teams to develop scalable AI use cases and drive user adoption.
- Establish best practices and governance frameworks for the responsible and secure use of AI within the firm.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI and legal tech trends, continuously identifying opportunities to improve KM processes and user experience.
- Measure the impact of AI initiatives through analytics and recommend enhancements to maximize business value.
Analytics & Performance Management
- Develop KPIs and dashboards to measure KM effectiveness, engagement, and business impact.
- Monitor usage patterns, search behavior, content contribution, and adoption metrics.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on data insights.
- Report KM performance and outcomes to leadership on a regular basis.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop KM team members.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management support.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and innovative team culture.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while ensuring timely delivery.
EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
Education & Experience
- 812 years of experience in Knowledge Management, preferably within a leading law firm or professional services organization.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing KM strategies.
- Experience managing legal precedents, knowledge repositories, and content governance programs.
- Strong exposure to legal research databases, document management systems, and enterprise search solutions.
- Experience working with SharePoint, Microsoft 365, iManage, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with AI-powered legal technologies and knowledge solutions.
- Proven experience managing senior stakeholders, including Partners and Practice Heads.
- Prior people management experience preferred
