POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy will assume a pivotal academic and clinical leadership role at a premier teaching hospital in the Northeast region of India. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering high-quality medical education to undergraduate MBBS and postgraduate students, providing advanced dermatological patient care across OPD, IPD, and emergency settings, and driving research and publication initiatives within the department. This role demands an exemplary balance of clinical expertise in skin diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and leprosy with a strong commitment to academic excellence in a university teaching workplace.
CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
Deliver structured theoretical and practical lectures for Undergraduate (MBBS) students and Postgraduate medical students in accordance with university curriculum requirements.
Conduct bedside clinical teaching, case-based discussions, seminars, and journal clubs for PG students and interns.
Mentor and guide postgraduate residents in case presentations, thesis formulation, and scholarly research.
Participate actively in curriculum development, examination processes, and academic assessment methodologies.
Cover duties of other Associate Professors when required, ensuring uninterrupted academic continuity.
B. Clinical Responsibilities
Attend and manage Outpatient Department (OPD) patients during assigned slots, maintaining high clinical standards.
Manage inpatient cases admitted under the unit and provide expert consultation for inpatient referrals across departments.
Attend emergency cases during on-call duties and ensure prompt, evidence-based clinical management.
Perform and supervise diagnostic and therapeutic dermatological procedures including skin biopsies, cautery, laser treatments, and minor surgical interventions.
Diagnose and manage skin diseases, leprosy, sexually transmitted infections, and related complications.
Participate in scheduled Operation Theatre duties to perform procedures and oversee postgraduate surgical training.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records, adherence to clinical protocols, and NABH quality standards.
C. Research & Publications
Lead and participate in departmental research projects and clinical trials.
Publish scientific papers in national and international indexed journals as per NMC requirements.
Submit articles and medical opinion pieces to media and scientific forums on a regular basis.
Guide and evaluate postgraduate thesis work to ensure academic rigor and compliance with university standards.
D. Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities
Assist the Head of Department in departmental administration and academic planning.
Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives, NABH compliance activities, and patient safety protocols.
Engage in Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, workshops, and national/international conferences.
Undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department as institutional needs evolve.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Educational Qualifications
MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
Postgraduate degree: MD / MS / DNB in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy from a recognized institution.
Teaching Experience (as per NMC Regulations)
Candidates must meet one of the following experience criteria:
Minimum 4 years as Assistant Professor in Dermatology at a recognized medical institution; OR
Minimum 5 years as Assistant Professor in Dermatology at a Government medical institution (for those directly appointed as Assistant Professor); OR
Armed Forces Specialist Medical Officer with at least 5 years of post-PG clinical experience in the relevant specialty, of which at least 3 years as Assistant Professor in an Armed Forces teaching hospital.
Research & Compliance Requirements
Must have published at least 2 research publications after becoming Assistant Professor; candidatemust be among the first three authors.
Must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognized institution designated by NMC.
Must have undergone or be willing to undergo the Basic Course in Medical Education (where the specialty is covered under UG training).
Minimum 1 year of working experience as Senior Resident in a recognized medical college or teaching hospital (preferred).
Regulatory Compliance
Valid registration with the State Medical Council or National Medical Commission is mandatory.
Preference will be given to candidates with a proven academic track record in a recognized university or college setting.
