JOB DESCRIPTION - MECHANICAL 3D DESIGN ENGINEER

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical 3D Design Engineer with hands-on experience in mechanical design and detailing of industrial machinery and equipment.
The candidate will be responsible for developing 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and design documentation for machines and mechanical systems.
The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of fabrication, sheet metal, welding, machining, material handling systems, and industrial equipment, along with the ability to convert engineering concepts into production-ready drawings.

Key Responsibilities

- Create detailed 3D models and mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Prepare accurate 2D manufacturing and fabrication drawings from 3D models.
- Design and detail:
- Machine structures and frames
- Sheet metal components
- Welded assemblies
- Machined components
- Baskets, trolleys, fixtures and material-handling systems
- Mechanical assemblies and machine accessories

- Generate BOMs, part lists, fabrication drawings and assembly drawings.
- Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, fits and GD&T; wherever required.
- Ensure drawings are suitable for actual manufacturing, fabrication and assembly.
- Select suitable materials and understand their practical application in machine design.




- Coordinate closely with production, fabrication, machining, procurement, electrical and project teams.
- Discuss drawings with the shop floor and resolve manufacturing-related design issues.
- Modify and revise designs based on engineering requirements, production feedback and customer requirements.
- Maintain proper drawing numbering, revision control and design documentation.
- Support project engineers during machine development, fabrication and installation.
- Review completed assemblies and identify opportunities for design improvement, cost reduction and ease of manufacturing.
- Ensure designs are practical, reliable, safe and economical.

Required Technical Skills

- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is required.
- Experience with other CAD software such as Creo, CATIA or Inventor will be an advantage.
- Good understanding of:
- Mechanical design principles
- Fabrication and welding
- Sheet metal design
- Machining processes
- Structural steel fabrication
- Bolted and welded assemblies
- Bearings, shafts, fasteners and standard mechanical components
- Fits, tolerances and clearances

- Ability to read and understand engineering and fabrication drawings.




- Knowledge of GD&T; will be an advantage.
- Positive understanding of manufacturing feasibility and design-for-manufacturing principles.

Candidates with experience in the following areas will be preferred:

- Industrial machinery
- Special Purpose Machines (SPMs)
- Automation equipment
- Material handling systems
- Paint / coating equipment
- Industrial cleaning equipment
- Conveyor and trolley systems
- Heavy fabrication and machine structures
- Production and manufacturing equipment

Qualification
Diploma/Any degree
Experience: 2 - 5 years in mechanical design and detailing.
Experience candidates with strong SolidWorks skills and relevant project experience may also be considered for suitable roles.

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Designer who can take a machine design from concept 3D modelling detailed drawings BOM fabrication assembly, while working closely with the engineering and production teams.

Candidates with practical industrial machinery design experience will be given preference
