Our client is one of the largest dedicated tax practices in the region and an affiliate of a leading global tax services firm. They advise many of the Middle East's most significant businesses on VAT, corporate tax, and regulatory compliance, and they are now building the technology platform that will scale that expertise across the GCC.

About the role

Our client is embarking on a high-stakes transformation of their VAT compliance services, to automate and extend their compliance across the GCC region. To lead this growth, they need a formidable Technology Director based in India. You will not just be managing developers; you will be the architectural authority overseeing their transition from client-by-client, manual tax logic to a massively scalable, centralised SaaS platform. You will lead the engineering and DevOps teams, architect high-throughput Azure solutions, and collaborate directly with UAE & KSA leadership to ensure their technology roadmap aligns perfectly with their market expansion.

Key responsibilities

- Own the overarching technical architecture of the proprietary AI platform. Ensure the Python/Flask backend, PostgreSQL databases, and Azure infrastructure (inc. Durable Functions) are designed to handle exponentially increasing financial data volumes without degradation.
- Provide leadership over their Software Engineering and DevOps teams. Drive the execution of the automation roadmap, strictly enforcing code quality, CI/CD best practices, and release stability.
- Drive the migration of the platform away from legacy workarounds and manual interpretation. Design centralised, automated calculation engines that can apply complex UAE and KSA VAT rules simultaneously across thousands of multi-tenant instances.




- Work with Tax SMEs and Delivery Analysts to ensure that engineering outputs seamlessly support front-line client coordination and analytics.
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering hub in India. Conduct technical interviews, set performance standards, and foster a culture of ownership and rapid, agile iteration.
- Oversee the secure and cost-effective integration of applied ML and LLM technologies (via OpenAI APIs and RAG workflows) to automate data mapping and tax law retrieval, ensuring strict adherence to data privacy guardrails.
- Own the platform's security posture end-to-end. Champion a secure software development lifecycle (secure-by-design reviews, threat modelling, dependency and vulnerability scanning), enforce identity and access management, and ensure encryption of sensitive financial data in transit and at rest. Lead incident response, and drive audit-readiness against recognised frameworks (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001) and GCC data-residency, DPDP, and GDPR obligations across all multi-tenant instances.

Requirements

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior management or architectural leadership role.
- Proven track record of designing, scaling, and maintaining multi-tenant B2B SaaS platforms. Deep understanding of microservices, event-driven architectures, and high-throughput data processing.
- Strong technical background in Python, advanced PostgreSQL optimisation, and up-to-date frontend frameworks (ideally React/Vue).




- Deep expertise in the Azure ecosystem (App Service, Azure Functions, Key Vault, Blob Storage) and enterprise-grade security practices.
- Demonstrated experience embedding security and compliance into a production SaaS platform: secure coding, identity and access management, encryption, and audit-readiness against frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001. Familiarity with data-residency and privacy requirements for financial data is strongly preferred.
- A highly autonomous, strategic thinker who can translate executive business goals (like regional tax expansion) into strictly managed technical sprints. You lead from the front and can dive into code reviews when necessary.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and cross-cultural leadership skills, with a proven ability to work across geographies (India, UAE, and KSA) and translate fluently bettheyen engineering teams and executive or business stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Hindi.
- Willingness to work UAE business hours (GST, UTC+4) to stay closely aligned with regional leadership.
- A reliable remote-working setup, including stable, high-speed internet, suitable for a fully remote role.

Nice-to-haves

- Proven experience building or scaling FinTech, RegTech, or accounting/tax software platforms.
- Hands-on experience transitioning early-stage startups into mature, enterprise-ready scale-ups.
- Familiarity with the integration of generative AI, vector databases, or embedding-based search at a production level.
