During the two years stay at Jio Institute, the Library Intern will be assisting in all the Jio Institute Digital Librarys (JDLs) missions, collections, user services, special collections and extension activities. The Intern will assist and will take responsibility to handle the daily operations of all activities pertaining to the librarys smooth operations and services which include rotational shift duties, assisting in user services (academic support/guidance and research supports) as well as internal and external trainings (user instructions/tutorials/guiding sessions etc.). She/He will also assist in technical processing of books/documents and organize collections with cataloguing and classification (using the various software platforms, special purpose applications, and database management systems in JDL) as well as support creatin, assisting in arrangement and maintenance of metadata. For Librarys special collections, the Intern will assist in all the activities related to COVID-19 Archives, as well as the other projects of the library.
Key Accountabilities:
- Helping identify and assess the archival value of materials related to special collection projects
- Assist in creating collection guides and shelve guide for finding the library resources
- Assisting in technical processing including accessioning and other registers as well as supporting the cataloguing, classification, labeling, due date slip spine, barcoding,
stamping and shelving of all the librarys resources as well as creating the database records
- Assisting the tasks of creation, organization of subscribed digital content
- Assist the team members to evaluate, select and apply metadata schema and techniques, standards, data elements to provide description and access to Jio Librarys collections
- Assisting the acquisition librarian to manage and provide assistance in ordering, managing and cataloguing the acquired materials
- Assist in managing the circulation counter services, performing shift duties as well as assist in supporting user services.
- Managing enquiries over the counter and via email or telephone.
- Support at the information counter and perform other duties as designated by librarians in the assigned work area
Qualifications:
- Master degree in library and Information Science (MLIS)
Skills:
- Robust interpersonal skills such as diplomacy, negotiation skills for effectively communicating with diverse groups
- Demonstrated strong oral, written, and web presentation communications and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the pedagogic use of a wide range of e-learning technologies
- knowledge of technical processing i.e., cataloguing and classification etc.,
- Demonstrated experience to operate email and calendar applications to create, respond to, and organize department activities
- Fluency in spoken and written Hindi, English required
- Flexibility to meet the changing needs of the service
