We are seeking a skilled Naval Architect to lead the design, development, and structural
analysis for defense applications. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of
composite boatbuilding techniques, regulatory requirements (IRS, DGS, IACS), and
experience with defense procurement standards. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle
from concept design to final construction and trials.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop hull forms, general arrangements, and construction drawings for
FRP boats (5m to 20m).
- Perform hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and structural analysis using software tools (e.g.,
Rhino, Maxsurf, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ORCA3D, ANSYS, etc.).
- Prepare stability booklets, inclining experiment reports, and weight estimation
documents as per classification society and MoD requirements.
- Oversee 3D modeling and generate production drawings for mold making and FRP
layup.
- Ensure compliance with Indian regulatory bodies such as: Indian Register of Shipping
(IRS), Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Defence procurement
guidelines.
- Collaborate with production, mechanical, and electrical teams during construction to
ensure design intent is met.
Support in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Harbor Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Sea
Acceptance Trials (SAT).
Liaise with classification societies and defense quality assurance representatives for
design approval and certifications.
Maintain technical documentation, design records, and revision control as per ISO and
defense standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture / Ocean Engineering / Ship Design from a
reputed institution (Masters preferred).
Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in FRP boat design and construction.
Proficiency in naval architecture software (AutoCAD, Rhino, Maxsurf, ORCA3D,
SolidWorks, etc.).
Valuable understanding of FRP structural design, sandwich construction, and hand layup/vacuum
infusion
techniques.
Familiarity
with defense procurement process and technical documentation
requirements.
Working knowledge of stability, propulsion, maneuvering, and seakeeping principles for
small craft.
Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
eferred Skills
Experience working on defense contracts or government tenders.
Knowledge of IMO High-Speed Craft Code and SOLAS requirements.
Exposure to ISO 12215 standards for small craft design.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional coordination.
Work Conditions
Based at [Company Yard/Office Location]
Occasional travel to shipyards, vendor locations, and trial sites as required
Will be part of a cross-functional technical and production team
