Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IBM Cognos Administrator with 46

years of experience to support and maintain Cognos Analytics environments. The role

involves day-to-day administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and assisting in

deployments to ensure smooth operation of enterprise reporting systems.

The ideal candidate should have strong foundational knowledge of Cognos architecture,

security, and performance monitoring, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team

environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cognos Administration

- Support installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM Cognos Analytics (11.x)
- Understand and work with Cognos architecture (Gateway, Application Tier, Content

Manager)

- Assist in managing Development, QA, and Production environments
- Perform routine system checks and monitor platform health

2. Server & Workplace Support

- Assist in configuring web servers (IIS/Apache) and application setups
- Monitor Cognos services and resolve basic service issues
- Support backup and recovery activities
- Apply minor patches and updates under guidance

3. User Access & Security

- Manage users, roles, and groups using LDAP / Active Directory
- Support implementation of basic data-level security
- Ensure adherence to organizational security standards

4. Performance Monitoring & Support

- Monitor report execution and system performance
- Identify slow reports and assist in troubleshooting
- Work with developers to improve report/query performance
- Escalate complex performance issues to senior team members

5. Content Management

- Manage reports, dashboards, and folders in Cognos
- Assist in deploying reports across environments
- Support Framework Manager packages and basic model validation
- Maintain documentation of deployed content

6. Data Connectivity

- Configure and test database connections (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2,



etc.)
- Troubleshoot connectivity and access issues
- Coordinate with DBAs for data-related concerns

7. Automation & Support

- Assist with simple automation using scripts (Shell/Python – basic level)
- Support scheduled jobs and report bursting activities
- Help maintain monitoring and ing processes

8. Support & Collaboration

- Provide L1/L2 support for Cognos-related issues
- Troubleshoot report failures, access issues, and scheduling problems
- Work closely with senior administrators, developers, and business users
- Document issues, resolutions, and processes

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in IBM Cognos or BI platform support/administration
- Hands-on experience with:

o IBM Cognos Analytics (11.x preferred)

o Basic Framework Manager exposure

- Understanding of:

o Cognos architecture and Content Store basics

o User security setup and administration

- Knowledge of:

o SQL and relational databases

o Windows/Linux environments

- Experience in troubleshooting and monitoring systems

- IBM Cognos certification (nice to have)
- Exposure to Cognos deployment and migration processes
- Basic knowledge of scripting (Shell/Python)
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts
- Exposure to cloud environments (AWS/Azure) or BI tools (Power BI/Tableau)
