Key Responsibilities:
1.
Clinical
Care and Patient Management:
- Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with complex rheumatologic conditions, including:
- Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and vasculitis
- Inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders, including ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout
- Soft tissue and joint disorders like fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome
- Pediatric rheumatology (if applicable)
- Musculoskeletal pain and systemic complications related to connective tissue diseases
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with chronic conditions, including long-term management, medication adjustments, and monitoring for disease progression.
- Utilize and interpret laboratory and imaging tests to assist in diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Prescribe disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologic therapies, and other medications for appropriate conditions.
2.
Multidisciplinary
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other specialists (e.g., orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, cardiologists, and pulmonologists) to offer holistic care for patients with complex rheumatologic issues.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss challenging cases and develop integrated care plans.
- Mentor and supervise junior rheumatologists, residents, and medical students during clinical rounds and outpatient consultations.
3.
Patient
Counseling and Education:
- Provide clear and empathetic counseling to patients regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, and potential side effects of medications.
- Educate patients and their families about managing chronic conditions, including self-management strategies,
lifestyle changes, and physical therapy.
- Advise on the importance of regular follow-ups, preventive care, and monitoring for potential complications of autoimmune diseases.
4. Research and Academic Contributions:
- Engage in clinical research in the field of rheumatology and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present findings at national and international conferences and workshops.
- Participate in the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways for the management of various rheumatologic diseases.
- Lead or contribute to academic teaching activities for medical students, residents, and fellows.
5. Quality and Safety Management:
- Ensure adherence to best practices, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies related to patient care, safety, and infection control.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits to monitor outcomes and enhance the quality of care.
- Promote the development and implementation of evidence-based treatment protocols within the department.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Qualification:
- MBBS + MD (Internal Medicine)
- DM / DNB in Rheumatology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in clinical rheumatology, with expertise in managing complex autoimmune and musculoskeletal diseases.
- Experience in the use of biologic therapies, DMARDs, and advanced treatments for rheumatologic conditions.
- Hands-on experience in joint injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and other diagnostic techniques (if applicable).
- Licensure:
- Valid medical registration with the State Medical Council or National Medical Council.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
- Proficiency in the use of biologic therapies, DMARDs, and immunosuppressive medications.
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities, particularly in complex and chronic cases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient counseling and collaborative team-based care.
- Ability to educate and guide patients and their families on disease management and prevention.
- Strong teaching and mentoring skills for junior staff, residents, and students.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage in cross-specialty collaborations.
Desirable Attributes:
- Active involvement in qualified organizations such as the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA), American College of Rheumatology (ACR), or similar bodies.
- Research publications in renowned rheumatology journals and contributions to clinical trials.
- Familiarity with advanced techniques such as musculoskeletal ultrasound, intra-articular injections, and other specialized procedures in rheumatology.
- Fellowship or additional training in a specialized area of rheumatology (e.g., pediatric rheumatology, vasculitis, or musculoskeletal ultrasound).
