Key Responsibilities:
1. Surgical and Clinical Care:
- Perform complex head and neck surgeries for malignancies, including:
- Laryngectomies, thyroidectomies, and neck dissections
- Oral cavity cancer surgeries, mandibulectomies, and reconstructive procedures
- Parotid gland and salivary gland surgeries
- Endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for early-stage cancers
- Skull base surgeries for advanced cases, if applicable
- Manage pre-operative evaluations, post-operative care, and complications for head and neck cancer patients.
- Provide adjuvant therapy management in collaboration with medical and radiation oncologists.
- Perform reconstructive surgeries, including free flap and microvascular techniques, for functional and cosmetic restoration.
2.
Multidisciplinary Team
Collaboration:
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings, discussing complex cases and formulating treatment plans.
- Work closely with oncologists, radiation therapists, speech therapists, and nutritionists to provide holistic care.
- Guide junior surgeons, medical residents, and other team members in clinical practice, ensuring high standards of care.
3.
Patient
Counseling and Education:
- Provide clear, compassionate, and empathetic counseling to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgery, and post-operative care.
- Educate patients about rehabilitation options post-surgery, including speech therapy, swallowing therapy, and psychological support.
4. Research and Academic Contributions:
- Participate in or lead clinical research projects and contribute to academic publications.
- Engage in clinical audits, review surgical outcomes, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Conduct teaching and training programs for medical residents, fellows, and other clinical staff.
- Present at conferences, workshops,
and skilled meetings to stay updated with the latest in head and neck oncology.
5. Quality and Safety Management:
- Ensure strict adherence to surgical protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
- Collaborate with the hospital management to enhance the head and neck oncology services, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
- Participate in institutional committees and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and patient care protocols.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Qualification:
- MBBS + MS (General Surgery) or equivalent
- MCh / DNB (Head and Neck Surgical Oncology) or equivalent
- Fellowship or additional training in head and neck oncology is preferred.
- Experience:
- 8–12+ years of experience in surgical oncology with a specialized focus on head and neck cancers.
- Proven experience in performing a wide range of head and neck oncological surgeries, including advanced procedures and reconstructive surgeries.
- Experience with minimally invasive and robotic techniques is a plus.
- Licensure:
- Valid medical license with registration from State/National Medical Council.
