Job Purpose

The Farm Supervisor is responsible for supervising all day-to-day farming activities and ensuring that work is completed correctly, on time and according to the instructions of management.

The Supervisor will be responsible for labour management, land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, spraying, crop maintenance, harvesting and general field discipline. The main objective is to achieve healthy crops, valuable yields, required quality and efficient use of labour and farm inputs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Daily Farm Operations

- Plan and supervise daily field activities according to instructions from the Farm Manager.
- Allocate workers to different fields and activities every morning.
- Ensure assigned work is completed within the required time.
- Personally inspect the fields throughout the day and monitor the quality of work.
- Maintain proper discipline and productivity among farm workers.
- Report daily work completed, pending activities and problems to the Farm Manager.

2. Land Preparation & Planting

- Supervise land preparation, bed formation, manure application and basal fertilizer application.
- Ensure correct planting distances, row spacing and plant population.
- Supervise seed sowing, nursery transplanting and replacement of missing or dead plants.
- Ensure fields are properly labelled and planting records are maintained.

3. Irrigation

- Monitor irrigation activities and ensure crops receive the required quantity of water.
- Check drip lines, valves, filters and irrigation systems regularly.
- Identify blocked or damaged drip lines and arrange immediate correction.




- Prevent unnecessary water wastage and over-irrigation.
- Report irrigation or water supply problems immediately.

4. Fertilizer & Crop Nutrition

- Supervise fertilizer, fertigation and foliar application according to the approved program.
- Ensure correct products and quantities are applied to each field.
- Prevent over-application, under-application or wastage of fertilizers.
- Maintain records of fertilizers and other inputs used.

5. Pest & Disease Management

- Inspect crops daily for pests, diseases and abnormal plant growth.
- Immediately report any pest or disease outbreak to the Farm Manager/Agronomist.
- Supervise pesticide and fungicide applications according to the approved spray program.
- Ensure correct dosage, mixing and application procedures are followed.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE during spraying and chemical handling.
- Ensure spray equipment is properly cleaned and maintained after use.

6. Crop Maintenance

- Supervise weeding, pruning, staking, tying, trellising and other crop maintenance activities.
- Ensure weak, diseased or damaged plants are identified and managed appropriately.
- Monitor flowering, fruit development and general crop condition.
- Ensure fields, pathways and surrounding areas are kept clean.

7. Harvesting & Quality





- Supervise harvesting according to required maturity, size and quality standards.
- Ensure workers handle produce carefully to prevent bruising and damage.
- Ensure harvested produce is quickly transferred from the field to the collection/packhouse area.
- Monitor daily harvesting quantities and report production.
- Reduce field losses and rejection due to poor harvesting practices.

8. Labour Management

- Maintain daily worker attendance.
- Allocate labour according to workload and priorities.
- Monitor worker productivity and performance.
- Ensure workers follow instructions and company rules.
- Report absenteeism, misconduct or poor performance to management.
- Ensure labour is used efficiently and unnecessary overtime is avoided.

9. Farm Machinery & Equipment

- Coordinate the use of tractors, sprayers and other farm machinery required for field operations.
- Ensure operators carry out basic daily checks before using machinery.
- Report breakdowns immediately.
- Prevent misuse or careless operation of company machinery, tools and equipment.
- Ensure tools issued to workers are properly returned and accounted for.

10. Records & Reporting

The Farm Supervisor must maintain accurate daily records including:

- Labour attendance and allocation
- Work completed by field
- Planting and harvesting
- Fertilizer and chemical applications
- Irrigation activities
- Crop condition
- Pest and disease observations
- Machinery usage and breakdowns
- Daily production and harvesting quantities

A daily farm report must be submitted to the Farm Manager.
