- Informed Consent: Explains anesthesia options, risks, and advantages clearly to the patient.
- Pre-Medication: Prescribes sedative medications to reduce patient anxiety before entering the operating theater.
Intra-Operative Roles (During Surgery)
- Anesthesia Delivery: Administers general, regional (spinal/epidural), or local anesthesia safely.
- Airway Management: Performs endotracheal intubation or places advanced airway devices securely.
- Vital Monitoring: Tracks real-time heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and brain activity continuously.
- Fluid Resuscitation: Manages intravenous fluid balances, electrolyte levels, and blood transfusions accurately.
- Emergency Response: Diagnoses and treats sudden life-threatening complications or cardiac arrests immediately.
Post-Operative & Extended Roles (After Surgery)
- Recovery Supervision: Monitors patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) until vital signs stabilize.
- Pain Management: Designs tailored acute pain-relief plans using nerve blocks or specialized intravenous pumps.
- Critical Care: Manages life-support systems, ventilators, and severe infections in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
- Trauma Care: Leads resuscitation and stabilization efforts for critically injured patients in emergency bays.
