The Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, sterilizing surgical instruments, assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures, and ensuring a secure, sterile, and efficient surgical setting. The role is critical in maintaining patient safety and smooth surgical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare the operation theatre before each surgical procedure.
Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables are available and sterile.
Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgeries.
Arrange and pass surgical instruments and supplies during procedures.
Maintain strict aseptic and infection control protocols.
Perform instrument, sponge, and needle counts before and after surgery.
Operate and monitor OT equipment such as suction machines, electrocautery, monitors, OT lights, and anesthesia equipment.
Assist in patient positioning, transfer, and preparation for surgery.
Clean, disinfect, and prepare the OT after each procedure.
Coordinate with CSSD for sterilization and availability of instruments.
Maintain OT inventory, equipment maintenance logs, and surgical records.
Report equipment malfunctions and ensure timely repairs.
Comply with hospital safety, infection control, NABH, and quality standards.
Qualifications
Diploma or B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or equivalent.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
Knowledge of sterilization techniques and OT protocols.
Experience
2–5 years: OT Technician
Experience in multispecialty hospitals is preferred.
Required Skills
Knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
Understanding of infection prevention and sterilization practices.
Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.
Valuable communication and teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and robust organizational skills.
Basic computer skills for documentation.
Working Conditions
Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency duties.
Long periods of standing during surgeries.
Exposure to blood, body fluids, and surgical environments while using appropriate PPE.
Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
Experience:
Operating theatre: 2 years (Preferred)
