Job Summary The HR & India Payroll SME acts as the process and compliance authority for end-to-end India payroll and HR operations. This role owns payroll accuracy, statutory compliance, and process governance, and serves as the point of escalation for complex payroll, tax, and compliance matters. The SME partners closely with Finance, HRBPs, and external vendors to ensure payroll is delivered accurately, on time, and in full compliance with Indian labour and tax law.

Key Responsibilities

- Own end-to-end India payroll processing, including validation of inputs, statutory deductions etc
- Serve as the subject matter expert on Indian payroll legislation, including PF, ESI, Professional Tax, LWF, Gratuity, and Income Tax (TDS).
- Review and approve monthly payroll registers, reconciliations, and variance reports before disbursement.
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll audits (statutory, internal, and client) and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors/outsourced partners and ensure SLA adherence.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within payroll and HR operations, including Oracle HCM configuration and testing.
- Guide and review the work of Analysts, providing quality checks and technical/process coaching.
- Stay current on changes to labour codes, tax regulations, and statutory filing requirements,



and translate these into updated internal processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate statutory filings and remittances (PF, ESI, PT, TDS returns, etc.).
- Handle escalations related to employee pay queries, full-and-final settlements, and payroll discrepancies.

- 100% statutory and regulatory compliance across all payroll cycles.
- Zero critical errors in payroll processing and disbursement.
- Timely closure of statutory audits and internal compliance reviews.
- Process efficiency improvements and reduction in manual intervention.
- Vendor SLA adherence and effective stakeholder management.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, HR, Finance, or related field; MBA/PGDM in HR preferred.
- 8 + years of experience in India payroll and HR operations, with demonstrated subject-matter expertise.
- Robust working knowledge of Indian labour laws, payroll statutory compliance, and taxation (TDS).
- Hands-on experience with Oracle HCM or equivalent HRMS/payroll systems.
- Experience managing payroll audits and statutory filings independently.

Skills & Competencies

- Deep expertise in Indian payroll compliance and statutory frameworks.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel and reporting capability; familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems.
- Effective stakeholder management across HR, Finance, and external vendors.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a process-improvement mindset.
