Role Overview

On behalf of our client, an established international IT infrastructure services company, we are seeking a hands-on Field Break-Fix Engineer for on-site roles at their data centre operations in Mumbai to diagnose and physically repair enterprise server hardware in office at client data centres. This is a dedicated break-fix role, not a data centre operations or monitoring role.

The right person is a genuine hardware fixer, someone who personally identifies faulty components and replaces them, in the style of a Dell, HP/HPE, or Lenovo field service engineer. Candidates whose experience is primarily data centre operations, monitoring, ticketing, or logging warranty calls with the OEM are not suitable. We need engineers who do the physical break-fix themselves.

Ideal candidates come from a System Integrator (SI) or an Authorised Service Provider (ASP) for Dell, HP/HPE, or Lenovo, where the day-to-day work is full hands-on break-fix: diagnosing and replacing faulty server parts across many machines and sites.

What This Role Is (and Is Not)

This role IS

- Hands-on physical repair of enterprise servers, diagnosing faults and replacing failed components.
- Field service / break-fix engineering in the style of a Dell / HP / Lenovo hardware engineer.
- Component-level work: system boards, CPUs, memory, RAID controllers, backplanes, power supplies, drives, and more.

This role is NOT

- A data centre operations, monitoring, or NOC role.
- A role focused on ticketing, dashboards, or coordinating vendors to do the repair.
- A systems administration, virtualisation, or infrastructure-management role.

Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose hardware faults on Dell, HP/HPE, and Lenovo/IBM enterprise servers and physically replace the failed components.
- Carry out component-level break-fix: system boards, CPUs, memory (DIMMs), RAID/storage controllers, backplanes, power supplies, drives (HDD/SSD), remote access cards, and cooling.
- Use vendor diagnostics and management tools (iDRAC, iLO, XClarity) to confirm faults, then complete the physical repair and validate the fix.
- Respond to break-fix calls within the contracted SLA (immediate when on-site; typically 2 to 4 hours on-site response depending on the contract).
- Participate in rotating weekly standby coverage, attending on-site when activated.
- Maintain and order spare parts as needed; obtain approval before purchasing any new tools.
- Observe the DOs and DON'Ts of the customer's production environment at all times.

Requirements

Essential, hands-on break-fix

- Minimum 3 years of genuine, hands-on server hardware break-fix experience, physically diagnosing and replacing failed components, not monitoring or coordinating.
- Real hands-on break-fix experience across Dell, HP/HPE, and Lenovo/IBM enterprise servers.
- Component-level replacement experience with:
- System boards, CPUs, memory, RAID/storage controllers, backplanes, power supplies, HDD/SSD, and remote access cards.
- Dell PowerEdge, HP/HPE ProLiant (BL/DL/ML), and Lenovo/IBM (including Blade) server families.
- Strongly preferred: background with a System Integrator (SI) or an Authorised Service Provider (ASP) for Dell, HP/HPE, or Lenovo, where break-fix is the core daily work.
- CompTIA A+ / Server+ or vendor hardware certifications an advantage.
- Own personal hand tools expected (standard for experienced field engineers).

Data centre knowledge (supporting, not the focus)

- Working understanding of a data centre production environment, change control, access protocols, and safe working practices.
- Comfortable working on the data centre floor, but with the majority of the role being hands-on server break-fix.

Attributes

- Self-starter who can diagnose and fix independently, with minimal instruction.
- Professional, service-oriented, and able to work with end users and stakeholders on-site.
- Strong communication skills and able to work under pressure to meet SLAs.

Availability and location

- Comfortable with rotating shifts covering 10:00 to 22:00, working 10-hour days, 4 days on / 3 days off including weekends.
- Available for rotating weekly standby, with overtime claimable when called in.
- Based in or able to commute to the Mumbai or Bengaluru site (own commute; occasional reimbursed travel to other data centres when required).
