Senior Buyer — Procurement Operations
Buying Simplified | Chennai or Ahmedabad, India Full time · Hybrid (2–3 days from office each week) · Evening shift (approx. 4:00 PM – 01:00 AM IST) Experience: 5–9 years in procurement, sourcing, or purchasing operations.
WHO WE ARE
Buying Simplified is a US-headquartered procurement and finance operations firm. We run the buying function for companies whose spend is growing faster than their teams — biotech and pharma, medical devices, semiconductor, technology, and business services.
We are not a staffing company and we are not a consultancy that writes a report and leaves. We own the work. Purchase requisitions, sourcing events, supplier negotiations, contract administration, PO management, vendor onboarding, catalogue and spend data — running inside our clients own systems, to their own policies, as if we were their team. Clients keep us for years, often through funding rounds, ERP migrations, and IPOs.
We also build our own AI. Our GenieWorks platform, built on Claude and AWS, sits on top of the work we deliver — sourcing intelligence, contract analysis, spend classification, invoice automation. You will use it every day, and what you tell us about it changes how it gets built.
And we run Procurement League, a global community of 51,000+ procurement professionals. Our people are part of it, speak at it, and learn from it.
THE ROLE
We are hiring Senior Buyers. This is a hands-on buying role with real ownership. You will be the buyer for one or two US client accounts, working directly with their stakeholders — engineering, R&D;, lab operations, IT, facilities, marketing — to convert demand into sourced, negotiated, compliant purchases. You will run your own RFQs. You will negotiate your own supplier terms. You will be the person a client's requester messages when they need something bought properly and quickly.
We are deliberately industry-agnostic in this hire. Good buyers transfer. What we care about is whether you can pick up an unfamiliar category, find the right suppliers, ask sharp questions, and land a better outcome than the client would have got on their own.
This role is for a go-getter. If you want a queue of tickets to clear, this is the wrong job. If you want to walk into a client account, find the $50K of spend nobody has looked at in three years, and do something about it — keep reading.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Sourcing and negotiation
- Run end-to-end sourcing events — RFI, RFQ, RFP — from requirement gathering through supplier selection and award
- Build and maintain supplier shortlists across new and unfamiliar categories
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, SLAs, and commercial terms directly with suppliers
- Benchmark quotes, build should-cost views, and defend your recommendation with data
Buying operations
- Own the requisition-to-PO cycle for your accounts — review, clarify, source, convert, dispatch, expedite
- Manage open PO books: acknowledgements, changes, delivery follow-up, receipt and invoice exceptions
- Resolve price, quantity, and three-way match discrepancies with suppliers and client AP
- Maintain catalogues, contracted price files, and preferred supplier lists so buying stays on-contract
Supplier and contract management
- Onboard new suppliers — documentation, banking validation, compliance checks, system setup
- Administer contracts, SOWs, change orders, and renewals; track expiries before they become emergencies
- Run supplier performance conversations on delivery, quality, and responsiveness
Client relationship
- Be the day-to-day buying contact for client stakeholders and their suppliers
- Communicate directly with US-based requesters and procurement leads — clearly, in writing and on calls
- Report on savings, cycle time, PO throughput, and on-contract compliance in a way a client executive can read in two minutes
Finding the upside
- Spot maverick spend, duplicate suppliers, price creep, and tail-spend clusters — and bring the opportunity forward without being asked
- Contribute to spend analysis and category strategy work for your accounts
- Use our AI tooling to work faster, and tell us where it falls short
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Non-negotiable
- 5–9 years in procurement, sourcing, purchasing, or buying operations
- Hands-on ownership of the full buying cycle — not just PO creation, but sourcing and negotiating
- Demonstrated supplier negotiation experience with outcomes you can talk through in detail
- Working experience in at least one major procurement or ERP platform — SAP / Ariba, Coupa, Oracle, NetSuite, Ramp, Ivalua, Zycus, or similar
- Excellent English, written and spoken, at a level that holds its own with a US client stakeholder on an unscripted call. This will be assessed directly in the interview.
- Strong Excel — pivots, lookups, cleaning messy vendor and spend data without complaining about it
- Willing and able to work the evening shift and to be in office 2–3 days a week
Strongly preferred
- Experience serving US, UK, or European clients from India — captive, GBS, shared services, or outsourced delivery
- Exposure across more than one spend category — indirect, MRO, IT, professional services, lab and scientific, marketing, logistics, facilities
- Experience through an ERP implementation or migration
- Contract administration or CLM exposure (Ironclad, Icertis, DocuSign CLM or similar)
- Formal procurement certification — CIPS, CPSM, or equivalent
- Comfort with AI tools in day-to-day work
Who does well here (Important)
- Bias to action. You chase the supplier who hasn't replied. You don't wait for the third reminder.
- Owns the outcome. I sent the RFQ is not the same as the part arrives Tuesday. You know the difference.
- Curious about categories you've never bought. You'd rather learn a new one than repeat a familiar one.
- Direct and calm in writing. Clients are eight time zones away. Your email is the relationship.
- Commercially instinctive. You notice when a price looks wrong before anyone runs a report.
HOW WE WORK
Evening shift — and it's paid for (for working after midnight)- Approximately 4:00 PM to 01:00 AM IST, so you overlap live with US client teams for a meaningful part of their day. This is deliberate — it is the difference between being a processing centre and being someone's actual buyer. Working hours (after mid-night) earn a shift allowance on top of base salary. We're asking you to shape your day around our clients, so we pay for it rather than treating it as a condition of the job.
Hybrid, 2–3 days in office — and we cover the commute. We are not a fully remote company. Buying is a craft learned next to other people who do it well, and our client accounts move faster when the team is in the same room. For every day you come in, you receive a commute allowance — separate from the shift allowance, and paid regardless of how you travel. The remaining days are yours to work from wherever you're most effective.
LIFE AT BUYING SIMPLIFIED
Our people are the product. If we don't invest in them the way good software companies invest in engineers, we can't deliver what we promise.
- Shift allowance — paid on top of base for the evening hours, every month.
- Commute allowance — paid for every day you're in the office, on top of everything else.
- Learning budget — certifications, courses, and conferences funded, not just encouraged. CIPS and CPSM included.
- Wellness allowance — an annual budget for gym, supplements, gym-gear, mental health, or whatever keeps you at your best.
- Annual offsites — full-team offsites that build bonds and celebrate what we've delivered together.
- Spot awards — recognition the same week someone goes above and beyond, not at year-end.
- Client success awards — when an engagement lands well, the team that delivered it gets named publicly.
- Festival gifts — investment-linked, not swag.
- Procurement League access — our own 51,000-member global community. Speak at events, join chapter meet-ups, build a professional profile beyond your job title.
- Real exposure — you'll present to US Controllers, Procurement Directors, and CFOs. Our senior advisory bench includes former CPOs from global life sciences and semiconductor companies. Small firm, short distance to the top.
COMPENSATION
Competitive for the market at this experience level. On top of base, you receive a shift allowance for the evening hours, a commute allowance for every office day, and a performance bonus. Discussed openly based on your profile. Please share current and expected CTC when you apply.
