Role & responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Diagnose and manage hematological conditions such as:
- Anemia (iron deficiency, hemolytic, aplastic)
- Leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
- Bleeding and clotting disorders (e.g., hemophilia, thrombophilia)
- Platelet disorders
- Interpret laboratory investigations including:
- CBC, peripheral smear
- Bone marrow biopsy/aspiration
- Coagulation profiles
- Flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics
- Prescribe and monitor treatments:
- Chemotherapy and targeted therapy
- Immunotherapy
- Blood transfusions and supportive care
Procedures
- Perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- Manage central venous access devices (if applicable)
- Supervise transfusion practices and ensure protected blood usage
Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive patient-centered care
- Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis
- Manage long-term follow-up and complications
Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Medical oncologists
- Pathologists and laboratory teams
- Radiation oncologists
- Critical care specialists
- Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary meetings
Academic & Research
- Participate in clinical research and trials
- Publish research papers and case studies
- Teach and mentor junior doctors, residents, and interns
- Attend CME programs, workshops, and conferences
Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and quality standards
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records
- Contribute to departmental growth and service development
