A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Operator in a foundry plant sets up, operates, and monitors CNC machines to precision-machine cast iron or aluminum components. They are responsible for loading castings, setting tool offsets, monitoring production for quality, and ensuring tight tolerances.

Key skills include reading blueprints, measuring tools, and addressing casting defects.

Core Responsibilities

- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor VMC machines to transform cast parts based on engineering drawings.

- Production & Loading: Load raw castings and unload finished parts, ensuring proper handling of heavy materials.

- Quality Control: Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and bore gauges to verify the dimensional accuracy of cast components.

- Setting & Editing: Perform tool changes, set tool/work offsets, and make minor program corrections (G/M code) for optimization.

- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify casting defects, tool wear, and machine issues,



performing basic preventive maintenance.

- Safety Compliance: Adhere to foundry safety regulations, proper PPE usage, and 5S standards to maintain a clean workspace.

Key Skills & Qualifications

- Experience: Generally 1–4 years of experience as a VMC/CNC operator, particularly in a foundry or casting setting.

- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading engineering blueprints and understanding GD&T.;

- Controller Knowledge: Familiarity with CNC controllers like Fanuc or Siemens.

- Education: ITI, Diploma, or equivalent technical education is preferred.

Common Requirements

- Ability to work in shifts.

- Strong attention to detail for inspecting machined casting surfaces.

- Good understanding of metal cutting tools and machining parameters.
