Position Summary - Vice President - MEP Design The Vice President - MEP Design will lead the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design function across the organization's real estate portfolio.
The role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and optimizing MEP designs to ensure technical excellence, regulatory compliance, sustainability, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness. The incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality MEP solutions aligned with business objectives and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities MEP Design & Technical Leadership
- Lead the design, review, and approval of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Protection, and ELV systems across multiple projects.
- Ensure all MEP designs comply with applicable National Building Codes (NBC), statutory regulations, fire & life safety standards, and sustainability frameworks such as LEED and GRIHA.
- Review and approve technical drawings, engineering calculations, equipment selection, BOQs, specifications, and design documentation.
- Provide technical guidance during project planning, execution, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Evaluate current technologies and engineering solutions to enhance building performance and operational efficiency.
Design Optimization & Value Engineering
- Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize project costs without compromising quality, safety, functionality, or long-term maintainability.
- Recommend innovative and energy-efficient MEP solutions that improve lifecycle performance and reduce operating costs.
- Standardize design practices, specifications,
and engineering processes across projects.
Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with Architecture, Projects, Technical Services, Leasing, Operations, Procurement, and external consultants to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Resolve complex design and site coordination issues through effective technical leadership.
- Support project teams during design reviews, tender evaluations, contractor selection, and technical negotiations.
Quality, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, statutory approvals, environmental regulations, and health & safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Establish robust design review processes, technical audits, and quality assurance mechanisms.
- Monitor project compliance with approved specifications and engineering standards.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the MEP Design team while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Build technical capability within the team through coaching, knowledge sharing, and performance management.
Key Dimensions
- Lead and manage a team of MEP professionals.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Projects, Leasing, Technical Services, Operations, Procurement, and external consultants.
- Provide technical oversight across multiple projects within the development portfolio.
Requirements Essential
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 18 years of progressive experience in MEP Design for large-scale commercial, mixed-use, retail, hospitality, or real estate developments.
- Strong expertise in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, ELV systems, and integrated building services.
- Proficiency in industry-standard engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, BIM platforms, ETAP, HAP or equivalent).
- Comprehensive knowledge of National Building Code (NBC), Indian Standards, Fire & Life Safety Codes, LEED, GRIHA, and other relevant regulations.
- Proven experience in sustainable and energy-efficient building design.
- Strong technical review, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage consultant relationships.
Desirable
- LEED AP, GRIHA, or equivalent sustainability certification.
- Experience in large-scale commercial real estate or mixed-use developments.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align engineering decisions with commercial objectives.
- Exposure to BIM implementation and digital engineering practices.
- Ability to manage multiple high-value projects while delivering within timelines and budgets.
- High degree of innovation, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement mindset.
