Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Windows Platform Engineer responsible for the engineering, operational ownership, automation, standardization, security, and lifecycle management of Williams-Sonoma’s Windows Server platform and Microsoft infrastructure services.
This role extends beyond traditional Windows administration. It is an operational engineering role focused on designing, improving, automating, and operating secure, highly available Windows platforms that support Williams-Sonoma’s global business operations.
You will partner closely with Senior Engineers, Architects, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Networking, Linux, Storage, and Enterprise Tools teams to operationalize new platform capabilities, improve system reliability, reduce operational complexity, and continuously mature the Windows platform through automation, engineering best practices, and operational excellence.
This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Infrastructure Engineering Operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Engineer, implement, and maintain enterprise standards for Windows Server platforms, Microsoft Azure services, Active Directory, Group Policy, and related Microsoft infrastructure technologies.
- Own operational engineering activities across the Windows platform including incident response, platform reliability, lifecycle management, patching, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, automation, and continuous service improvement.
- Design, engineer, standardize, and continuously improve enterprise Windows services including Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS, authentication, authorization, replication health, and hybrid identity integration.
- Engineer secure Windows platforms by implementing operating system hardening, enterprise security baselines, vulnerability remediation, certificate management, privileged access controls,
and operational compliance standards.
- Drive PowerShell-based automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to improve provisioning, configuration management, compliance, operational consistency, and engineering productivity.
- Design, implement, and maintain secure Managed File Transfer platforms including MOVEit Transfer and MOVEit Automation to support secure enterprise data exchange.
- Execute approved infrastructure changes while ensuring operational readiness, implementation quality, rollback planning, validation, and documentation.
- Contribute to Problem Management by performing root cause analysis, identifying recurring issues, recommending platform improvements, and driving continuous operational improvement initiatives.
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering practices to improve troubleshooting, scripting, documentation, operational reporting, log analysis, and engineering productivity.
- Partner closely with Linux, Storage, Networking, Cloud, Enterprise Tools, Security, and Application Engineering teams to deliver resilient enterprise infrastructure solutions.
- Participate in engineering projects to ensure new platform capabilities are operationally ready, supportable, observable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Develop reusable automation, engineering standards, operational runbooks, knowledge articles, and technical documentation.
- Analyze platform health, operational metrics, capacity trends, reliability risks, and performance data to recommend engineering improvements.
- Lead technical troubleshooting during major incidents, coordinate restoration activities, perform root cause analysis, and identify long-term improvements that enhance platform resilience.
- Mentor engineers by sharing technical knowledge, engineering best practices, automation techniques, and operational experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of enterprise Windows platform engineering or systems engineering experience.
- Deep expertise designing, engineering, and supporting enterprise Windows Server platforms within large-scale production environments.
- Deep expertise designing, engineering, and operating Microsoft Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022 or newer) within highly available enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and enterprise authentication services.
- Expert knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS, authentication, authorization, and enterprise identity services.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure and hybrid Windows environments.
- Strong experience managing Windows operating system lifecycle, vulnerability remediation, patch management, platform hardening, and security compliance.
- Hands-on expertise with PowerShell scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency and engineering consistency.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Hybrid Services, or Microsoft Entra ID is desirable.
- Experience with enterprise patch management platforms such as WSUS, MECM/SCCM, Tanium, or equivalent enterprise solutions.
- Experience managing Windows security baselines, vulnerability remediation, CIS hardening, and operational compliance.
- Working knowledge of VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise virtualization platforms including VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Experience supporting secure Managed File Transfer platforms such as MOVEit Transfer, MOVEit Automation,
or equivalent enterprise file transfer solutions.
- Demonstrated interest in responsibly using AI tools to strengthen engineering productivity, particularly for automation, troubleshooting, scripting, documentation, and operational analysis.
- Strong understanding of Windows security best practices including operating system hardening, privileged access, certificate management, and enterprise authentication.
- Experience supporting enterprise monitoring, observability, operational management, and infrastructure monitoring platforms.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code, Git-based workflows, APIs, and modern automation practices.
- Strong understanding of ITIL-aligned Incident, Change, Problem, and Operational Management processes.
- Experience supporting highly available enterprise production environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD Connect, Hybrid Identity, or enterprise identity modernization initiatives.
- Experience supporting MOVEit Transfer, MOVEit Automation, IIS, Windows Failover Clustering, PKI, or enterprise certificate management.
- Experience integrating Windows platforms with Linux, Networking, Storage, Cloud, Security, and Enterprise Tools platforms.
- Experience supporting retail, eCommerce, or other large-scale customer-facing enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting highly seasonal or peak-event operational environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex cross-domain infrastructure issues.
