Role Description

Director of Platform Architecture Who We Look For We are looking for a Director of Platform Architect to define, build, and evolve the cloud platform and internal developer platform that underpin UST FinX’s engineering organization. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role — not people management. Your influence comes from designing strong platform foundations, making sound architectural decisions, writing production-grade code and infrastructure, mentoring engineers, and raising the engineering standard across multiple pods.

You own the technical vision for our platform engineering capabilities: AWS architecture, Kubernetes runtime environments, infrastructure as code, GitOps, CI/CD, observability, security, and developer experience. You build reusable capabilities serving multiple teams, products, environments, and client implementations — not one-off projects. You understand that a platform is an engineering product used by other engineers: it must be secure, reliable, observable, automated, documented, and easy to consume.

You stay close to implementation — reviewing architecture, writing code, building infrastructure modules, improving pipelines, and debugging production issues. In an AI-assisted development environment, you apply strong engineering judgment to validate, refine, and reject generated outputs so components meet strict standards for correctness, resilience, security, and maintainability. We value a 360-degree cooperative culture where ideas are judged on merit, not hierarchy.

We expect architects to constructively challenge designs, simplify complexity, and converge the organization on strong reusable patterns.

What You Will Do Define and evolve the technical architecture of the UST FinX cloud platform and internal developer platform.

Design and build reusable platform capabilities: cloud foundations, deployment patterns, runtime environments, observability standards, security controls, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service developer workflows. Work hands-on with AWS, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, CI/CD tooling, observability platforms, and production runtimes. Establish patterns reusable across products, clients, environments, and delivery pods.

Guide teams on cloud architecture, networking, IAM, security boundaries, deployment and environment strategy, operational readiness, scalability, and resilience. Contribute production code and infrastructure — reusable modules,

platform services, automation, templates, libraries, and reference implementations. Partner with backend, DevOps, QA, product, and client-facing teams so the platform enables delivery without compromising quality.

Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and technical direction rather than reporting lines. Define engineering standards for cloud-native delivery, reliability, observability, automation, governance, and developer experience. Ensure systems are deployable, observable, secure, scalable, recoverable, and maintainable from the start.

Reporting

Line and Role Context This role reports directly to the CTO of UST FinX. You operate as one of the CTO’s senior technical lieutenants, creating engineering leverage across the organization while remaining deeply hands-on — influencing multiple pods, establishing reusable standards, mentoring technical leaders, challenging weak designs, and turning technical direction into production-quality execution. This is neither a passive advisory role nor a traditional people-management role.

Your authority comes from technical credibility, judgment, and execution. You work with the CTO to define standards, identify engineering gaps, raise delivery quality, and ensure architecture is reflected in real code, platforms, and operational behavior — a true force multiplier for the engineering organization.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For Minimum 8 years in software, cloud, platform, or infrastructure architecture; ideally 10–15 years with production platform ownership. Designing and operating production cloud platforms on AWS — multi-account strategy, networking, IAM, security, workload isolation, environment design, operational controls, and cost-aware design. Infrastructure as code — AWS CDK preferred; strong Terraform or CloudFormation also relevant.

Kubernetes (preferably Amazon EKS): cluster architecture, ingress, scheduling, autoscaling, service discovery, secrets management, deployment strategies, and production operations.

GitOps and modern CI/CD: automated deployment, environment promotion, rollback, policy enforcement, and release controls. Observability — metrics, dashboards, logs, traces, ing, SLOs; Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry. Platform engineering and internal developer platforms: golden paths, self-service workflows, paved roads, templates, and developer experience.

Production engineering: reliability, scalability, security, performance, operability, maintainability, and cost efficiency. Communicating architecture, trade-offs, and risks clearly to globally distributed teams. Mentoring and technical leadership without reliance on formal authority. Comfortable in a global, distributed organization with multiple pods, stakeholders, and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications Building internal developer platforms or platform products consumed by multiple teams. Building reusable engineering capabilities rather than project-specific infrastructure. Service mesh and cloud-native traffic management.

Designing secure multi-tenant or multi-environment platforms. Java and Spring Boot, especially where platform capabilities interact with backend services, APIs, or shared libraries. TypeScript, especially for AWS CDK, developer tooling, automation, or platform portals.

API-first architectures, event-driven systems, microservices, and integration-heavy enterprise platforms. Financial services, banking, or regulated environments where security, auditability, resilience, and operational control are critical. Policy-as-code, security automation, secrets management, supply chain security, vulnerability management, and compliance-oriented controls.

Living with the long-term consequences of architectural decisions — supporting, patching, scaling, migrating, and evolving a platform after adoption. UST FinX operates as a long-term transformation partner, not a traditional vendor — reducing operational risk, simplifying complex system landscapes, and delivering measurable outcomes such as faster delivery, improved efficiency, and lower infrastructure cost. We are building the infrastructure layer for the next generation of digital banking.
