Senior Test Engineer

We are hiring a Senior Test Engineer – Embedded / Edge Device QA to own end-to-end quality for networked edge devices and related software services.

This role requires strong networking, Linux, protocol, and embedded testing skills, the ability to automate checks with Python, and comfort working in modern lab and cloud setups. You will validate full product flows—from device bring-up and connectivity through cloud/UI behaviour—and clearly separate network/config issues from product defects.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Plan and execute end-to-end test cases for embedded/edge devices covering bring-up, connectivity, onboarding, data flow, and recovery.
- Validate behaviour over wired and wireless networks (switch, router, Wi‑Fi, internet stability).
- Test and troubleshoot using Linux (logs, services, networking tools, and containers where used).
- Verify communication using MQTT, TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, and related protocols.
- Design positive, negative, and recovery scenarios, including power loss, network drop, latency, packet loss, and reconnect.
- Capture strong evidence: logs, packet/MQTT traces, screenshots, environment details, and reproducible steps.
- Write clear defects, track fixes, and retest thoroughly.
- Use Python for test helpers, log parsing, simple automation, and soak scripts.
- Maintain test documentation and regression suites for ongoing release quality.

1) Networking knowledge

- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN, IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, gateway, and NAT.
- Hands-on experience with switches, routers, Wi‑Fi access points,



and basic network troubleshooting.
- Ability to diagnose connectivity issues such as link down, no internet, high latency, packet loss, and unstable Wi‑Fi.
- Comfortable using tools such as ping, traceroute, ipconfig/ifconfig, Wireshark (basic), and switch/AP admin pages.

2) Linux knowledge

- Strong Linux command-line skills (Ubuntu or similar).
- Experience with log analysis, process/service checks, file permissions, and networking commands.
- Comfort with remote access (SSH), package installs, and basic shell scripting.
- Experience testing software that runs as services or containers on Linux hosts (expected in this role).

3) Protocol / communication knowledge

- Solid understanding of TCP and UDP (ports, sessions, reliability differences).
- Practical knowledge of MQTT (broker, publish/subscribe, topics, QoS basics, TLS/auth concepts).
- Familiarity with HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/certificates basics, and common failure modes (timeout, auth failure, TLS handshake issues).
- Ability to validate end-to-end message/data flow across device ↔ broker/cloud ↔ UI/service.

4) Embedded / edge device testing

- Experience testing embedded devices, edge gateways,



or IoT hardware–software systems.
- E2E validation covering boot, network join, registration/onboarding, functional features, telemetry, and fault recovery.
- Hardware/lab handling: power cycle, cabling, serial/SSH access, and firmware/image bring-up (as applicable).
- Ability to write structured test cases and execute regression on current builds.

5) Web UI testing experience

- Hands-on experience testing web-based UI / dashboards / portals (functional and UI validation).
- Ability to validate UI against real device/backend state (status, alerts, configs, live updates).
- Experience with browser-based testing, defect logging with screenshots, and UI regression.
- Understanding of common UI issues such as wrong status, stale data, broken flows, and auth/session problems.

6) Python knowledge Working Python skills for QA use cases, including:

- Simple automation scripts
- Log parsing / report helpers
- MQTT or API test helpers
- Basic data validation

Ability to read and modify existing scripts is required; full framework architecture experience is not mandatory. 7) Core QA skills

- Strong test design across functional, integration, negative, recovery, and soak scenarios.
- Solid defect lifecycle practices: clear steps, expected vs actual, severity, and evidence.
- Strong debugging mindset using logs and network symptoms.
- Clear written communication for bug reports and status updates.
